I do love it! Looking at it makes you think the engines were an afterthought....

Once saw a picture from desert storm. An A-10 crew chief had crawled up into, and layed flat in a hole on the port inboard wing root that had been put there by anti-aircraft fire. The pilot brought it back without a scratch on him. Pretty impressive.

I lived next to the Myrtle Beach Airforce base before Clinton shut it down. I believe it was the 354th(?)FW that was based there when they went to IRAQ in Gulf War 1. I used sit on my balcony or at the beach and watch them in the air. Til this day I still think the A-10 is one of the best bad-asses the Airforce has ever had.

A10's are awesome ground support/attack aircraft and are much more suitable for that role than any of the F type platforms and better in many ways than helo's. They're incredibly durable, fly much slower with long loiter times and can kill anything that rolls on the ground with it's 30mm rotary cannon. They lack the vulnerability of helicopters and can deploy from primitive, unpaved airstrips. The A10 killed more tanks, APC's and artillery in Gulf War I than any other weapon system.
