English is a branch of the Germanic family of languages. The Saxons in the Anglo-Saxons of English originated from ancient Saxony in Germany.

I just completed reading this book: Origins Of The British. Oppenheimer says that English roots go way back even before the Romans came. Also, there wasn't a Anglo-Saxon genocide as we were all taught.
