Having the right to do something doesn't mean one should automatically do it. With rights come responsibility. People want the former but don't want to exercise the latter.

How do we balance civil liberty with civic responsibility in a time of war?

Patriotic citizens will take into account the consequences of exercising their right to criticize. Unpatriotic citizens don't care about the consequences, especially to others. They just want to open their yaps up and grab some attention.

To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.
