Didn't they try to throw the last one in prison?

I bet it was the broad's fault.

Can't see a thing out of those Burquas.

On a serious note, CNN is reporting no injuries, and neither ship in danger of sinking.

That's at least the 3rd sub to run into something in the last few years.

I'm guessing the sub's fault.

unless the freighter was aware the sub was there (interesting question, given the multiple japanese ship/american sub incidents), it was certainly up to the sub to avoid colliding (?).

Makes me wonder if there is any practical reason for a sub to be THAT close to a freighter, i.e. detection issues.

Well, the "school research trawler" off the coast of Hawaii in our exercise area was a little... peculiar. But a Japanese tanker in the Gulf of Oman is not at all out of place. Besides, a supertanker would make a piss-poor sonar observation platform.

With the Iranian tough talk about the straights of Hormuz, he might have been trying to mask his entrance/exit into the area by shadowing a surface ship.

Ooops.

Just a thought.

I remember thinking that at the time too. Makes a man, or a woman, fear being in a position of authority in the military these days. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Maybe the sub's captain watched the Kelsey Grammer movie "Down Periscope" one too many times.
