My son had a 45/70 in a Thompson Contender pistol.
Even with 2 sets of rings he couldn't keep the scope from moving...lol.
He sent it back to the factory and they agreed that it couldn't handle the recoil with a scope.
They offered him any other barrel he wanted so he got a 7-30 waters.
It was fun to shoot it though.

Mine is a Marlin lever gun and it can be a handful with full loads but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I shoot mostly .308, 6mmBRX and .45 for pistol.
The 45-70 will handle anything I meet.
I really like the TC pistols, I have shot a friend of mines and they are top quality.
