Well, if they could come up with reasonably high speeds as well - say, you wanted to erase or re-format such a drive. Wouldn't it be desirable if the whole task could be done in under 10 minutes?

And for those who don't backup, that'll just mean more data to lose.

Eh. At this point, magnetic drives don't hold any excitement for me. I'm waiting for solid state drives: Sandisk just made quite the leap in that particular area.

I know I am old now. I can remember paying $
399 for a 300 MB drive and thinking -"Man, I'll never fill this sucker up....."
And I now carry a pair of 1GB SD chips for my pocket PC.
I think I'll go fire up my Swan 350 and bask in the glow.....

The drive can hold about 330,000 3MB photos Still not big enough for me to store my porn collection. Guess I'll just have to keep it on my company's share drive.

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.

" About 50,000 trees would be necessary to create enough paper to hold a terabyte of information, according to the report."
Is "tree" a new unit of measurement? What font size, line spacing and paper weight are assumed in this statistic? Shouldn't reports in tech magazines be a little more -- technical?

Guess I'll just have to keep it on my company's share drive. That's excellent policy anyway. Not only do you get it backed up there but it saves the system administrator a whole lot of time in surfing for pr0n.
Did I mention I'm a system administrator?

Remember these things? I still have an un-opened box, 100K!

Guess I'll just have to keep it on my company's share drive.I'm the network operations manager and IT manager for a small company.... You have no idea how frequently that occurs...... The HR director and I have some stories.

I know I am old now. I can remember paying $ 399 for a 300 MB drive and thinking -"Man, I'll never fill this sucker up....."You young'uns, with your 300MB drives. My first hard drive was 20MB. Huuuuuuuuuge! That was a whole stack of 360k 5 1/4 floppies.

My cruddy Compaq. P4, 630 Gig internal with a WD 180 Gig external. It's fairly quick in retrieving data. I partitioned the internal drive.
