BERLIN -- Germany's population fell for a fourth consecutive year in 2006 and recorded the biggest drop since the country's reunification in 1990, the government said Friday, days after launching financial incentives designed to stall falling birth rates.
The number of births, meanwhile, was the lowest since World War II.
At the end of 2006, the number of people living in Germany stood at an estimated 82.31 million, 130,000 below the total at the end of 2005, the Federal Statistics Office said.
Germany's population grew in 2001 and 2002. But since then, a birth rate among the lowest in Europe has contributed to widening annual declines of 5,000, 31,000 and 63,000. Last year, deaths outnumbered births by 150,000, compared to 144,000 in 2005, the statistics office said.
...A recent government study forecast that the population could fall as low as 69 million by 2050.

German Population Shrinks No surprise here.
The Germans have been killing their unborn babies for decades.
But there is a sector of the country's population that IS growing: non-Germans. Muslims.

I've read about former aristocrats reclaiming their lands in the former East Germany where people have abandoned rural areas for the west and the cities. They're investing in them again to reclaim their heritage. Who knows if they'll just be broke again in 20 years, but it's nice that someone's taking an interest in these godforsaken regions.

Look at this imbalance. 65 years and over: 19.4% (male 6,602,478/female 9,415,619)

Germany's abortion laws are stricter than America's! People there just don't want to take the lifestyle hit that having a child would cause. And some of them don't have a choice, because unemployment is high.

People will laugh at you for saying that, but it's 100% accurate.
We see this in the US also. In fact, anyplace socialism takes foot it replaces God with state systems and programs; it takes away initiative & personal responsibility; it sucks the life out of a society and people. Socialism leaves a society without hope, without anything except chasing some hedonistic life.
It is unconscionable to embrace this "value system".

Not surprising. In the U.S., in the 2000 census, the comparable numbers are 14.4 million men/20.6 million women! I don't think those are significantly different, and any difference could be accounted for by the much greater loss of German soldiers in World War II among men who would now be in their late 70s or older.

This fact will not be heard in the old media when the rats lead by the beast impose national health care.

I don't know if that's true. In the mid-late 90s German abortion laws were largely liberalized.
