You should read the forums at the N&O in Raleigh; they have been just as complicit in this affair and all hell has broken loose over there.
I'm surprised heads haven't rolled.
I call hogwash on that statement.
It sounds like I am part of "your generation," and that is a complete mischaracterization of what happened in this country at that time.
Got urls??
On a phone call on WRAL tonight, Finnerty's father said he doesn't want to come back until this whole thing is settled.
Here is one that maggief links from:
http://blogs.newsobserver.com/editor/index.php?title=headline_saturday_da_mike_nifong_and_the&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1#comments
Now, she will have to explain the ins and outs of this to you; it's one forum I haven't been able to get a handle on and maggie seems to be an expert on it!
She will help us.
As despicable as Nifong's acts are, c'mon, it ain't a death penalty case. Besides, spending his life paying off a judgement on a shoe salesman's salary might make him wish he'd gotten the death penalty.
Roger that...
One would hope that a returning student not have ANY classes with any of the 88 "professors" who demonstrated OPENLY against the 3 boys - making ridiculous and obscene charges against the boys...
In a sane world -- the 88 ignorant professors and Duke President Broadhead should be dragged into the University square and publicly fired.
The "elite" of Academia need to learn the facts of life -- that bad acts result in serious consequences..
Semper Fi
It looks more like a PR move to me.
I stand by my statement.
I do admit to exercising some care when characterising my generation, for I certainly wasn't the norm. I was an Army brat, and myself and most of my earlier friends aspired to careers in the Army, or ending up marrying others who did.
However, my college experience was very different. One sort, the majority by far, did not yearn to military service, but did respect the demands of their country. If called, they served. If pressed, they volunteered. If passed by, they found other ways to serve their community and country. In later life they were White House Chief of Staff, U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Justice, College Professor, successful businessman, husband, fathers, etc. I count them my friends.
The other sort were selfish and self absorbed. They hung on to their 2S deferments and filled the seats in the graduate and law schools. Once over educated, they gravitated to tenure track positions in an era when education was expanding rapidly. They were comfortable with others of their ilk and rationalized their cowardice with anti war rhetoric. They were not idealogues, but embraced an ideology that excused their behavior. These sort are the deans, chancellors, and presidents of our colleges and universities. I abhor them.
What did I get wrong?
Utter tripe that you must tell yourself to convince yourself you're better than the rest of them.
Plenty of people were not called to serve; if you chose to color them as selfish, you're a fool.
>>>They say early admissions applications were down 20% at Duke.<<<
Not surprising. Who in their right mind would want to send their sons and daughters to a place where Constitutional rights have been suspended for white people?
So is this why he is still pursuing it? Protecting himself at the expense of the young men?
No kidding. Return to a place where the faculty came out against you without all of the facts? Aren't the elite liberals believers in innocent until proven guilty; give a fair trial...
No way would i want a kid of mine subjected to those idiots one moment longer.
I don't claim to be better than anybody. I served because that's what I wanted to do. Most of my friends did not choose that path, and only served if fate intervened. I don't fault them, and respect their choices.
But, there is a big difference between them and those who wrapped themselves around an idealogy that has consistently praised our enemies and condemed the United States.
If you think that there are not many amongst our generation who were not selfish and self absorbed, then you are the fool, sir, not I.
You could have fooled me and anybody else reading your posts; you basically said there were two groups, you and your friends, i.e., the good guys, and the creeps, the guys who didn't do what you did.
Well, they (or perhaps more properly their attorneys, since the statement was issued on the law firm letterhead) did misspell Brodhead's name.
From one of your earlier magnum opii:
Are you drinking tonight?
I ask becaues you've completely misinterpreted what I said.
Maybe you should slow down, huh?
