I gave you a pretty clear indication what genuine is in my opinion--Tom Coburn. Just look at his record and I don't think you will find anyone who is more conservative than he is in talk and in DEEDS. Sorry if that is too vague for you.

That's good enough to convince me that he's the right man for the job.

Now who could argue such an intelligent reason as that?

Your comment is perfect. Never thought of it that way, but so true!

Shameful.

Well then, you think of somebody else. The rest of us can't.

He won't even win Mass.

As Massachusetts's governor in 1996, William Weld not only appointed to the state supreme judicial court eventual chief justice Margaret. Marshall--who authored last November's ruling in favor of same-sex marriage--the maverick Republican also laid the groundwork for a pro-gay slate environment. During his tenure from 1991 to 1997, Weld appointed dozens of gays and lesbians to high-level posts while fighting for a gay-inclusive Republican Party.

If the alternative is Hillary why would I not vote for Slick Mitt if he is the nominee? As I said in another thread, it's better to get 80% (or less) of something than to get nothing at all.

So you are saying that whatever Coburn says is what you consider a platform for a "genuine" conservative? OK, fine. My point is that others who also consider themselves as "genuine" conservatives might disagree.

"Mitt... The White Obama."

With respect, that is complete nonsense.

Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. has never managed any business in the private sector, or any sizable agency in state or even local government or ever commanded a military unit. Obama is wholly unqualified to be the CEO or V.P. of the largest, most influential organization on the planet.

Contrast that to Mitt Romney who had a brilliant career in the private sector as a venture capitalist before running for political office, managed an amazing turnaround effort for the Salt Lake Winter Olympics, and applied some core conservative principles (anti-tax, anti-gay marriage, anti-abortion) while serving as Governor of ultra-liberal Massachusetts. His executive management qualifications are the best of any candidate under consideration, Republican or Democrat.

I highly recommend the following articles for FReepers genuinely interested in learning more about Mitt Romney. I knew very little about Romney before and the articles were very helpful to me to better understand Romney's background.

Mister PowerPoint Goes to Washington
Q&A: Mitt Romney Discusses Iraq War, Reagan's Influence and Gay Marriage

Fellow FReeper, myclob, posted some Quotes from Governor Mitt Romney about President Ronald Reagan that I found very informative.

Brownback and Huckabee are more of the same Bush style of "compassionate conservatism" that has run the party into the ground. Brownback also is a La Raza award winner who has an F when it comes to border issues.

Just because somebody is a social conservative doesn't make them conservative.

You asked me to think of another candidate so I gave you three names and of the three, I do like Congressman Pence the most although that is only to the point that I will make an effort to learn more about him.

I also like Tancredo but I'm becoming more and more convinced that he will not run.

Exactly.

Furthermore, Mitt was governor of Massachusetts not Mississippi. He can't be Haley barbour with a Massachusetts legislature.

Bolstered w/some facts:

Fact 1: He supports gun control, as do the other front-runners for the "conservative" party.

Fact 2: Folks like me will not vote for ANYONE who supports gun control.

Fact 3: If the "conservative" party does not come up with a conservative candidate who has a history of supporting the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution the other party will win.

It sounds like you just don't have a good knowledge of socialism is. Here the quote from WIKI on socialism:
Socialism refers to a broad array of doctrines or political movements that envisage a socio-economic system in which property and the distribution of wealth are subject to social control.[1] This control may be either direct—exercised through popular collectives such as workers' councils—or it may be indirect—exercised on behalf of the people by the state. As an economic system, socialism is often associated with state, community or worker ownership of the means of production.

Now that you are armed with the correct meaning of socialism, I hope you can find ways to use the term within the correct context.

...the other party will win if one-issue conservatives do not vote Republican. Do you think Hillary will support the 2nd Amendment? (Yours is a case of penny wise and pound foolish imo.)

Senators and congressmen never get elected president. A legislator does not get executive experience like a governor does.

Governor Huckabee might be doable, but I haven't noticed any groundswell of support for him.

That's one way to look at it. The other way to look at it is this:

I have carried arms in the defense of this country and understand their importance as a keystone of liberty and safety. I have earned the RIGHT to vote as I very well please without being blamed for the results of political expediency on the part of others. A man must stand on principle or he has none. imo
