Sorry to use an inflamatory word like hell. Let me say this, he is in a very dark place, very dark, very remote and very far from the light of God.

I am pretty sure he was defiant to the end. Maybe we'll read more about his last hours and minutes in the next day or so and be able to know more and speculate for ourselves if he had a change of heart, but I'm betting he was defiant to the end.
