Ditka was the only real hope to beat Osama, but Ditka wimped out. Not sure what the Illinois GOP could have done.

What is the population of Illinois?

WHAT DO YOU MEAN "not sure what the Illinois GOP could have done"?

This is a GOP problem all over the G-D country! Aren't there ANY successful farmers, bankers, businessmen, local or state officials?

Barack Obama, pardon my French, was a nobody! You don't need a media personality with no qualifications to be dogcatcher (Ditka) to beat a nobody!

You need a somebody to beat a nobody! What's wrong with the GOP that they cannot find ONE SINGLE CANDIDATE for the US Senate in North Dakota, or Nebraska, states where Bush got over 60% of the vote?

Obama is the fault of the Illinois GOP, all right - but not because they didn't nominate Mike Ditka.

Who's on the bench? Where's the farm team?

I give "big ears" Osama bout 5 months and the sheen is going to wear off. He'll be in a dean like tail spin before next September.

In Illinois, a scandal is only a scandal if Republicans are involved. Democrats are expected to be corrupt.

It is not possible to claim a higher moral standard and then not expect to be held to it.

As I understand it, Obama wouldn't be considered to be born Muslim unless his mother was Muslim.

This article is unadulterated BS.

No kidding! It didn't even mention the tireless work of Alan Keyes, who faithfully kept his word and remained in Illinois after the election. A lesser man might have collected the checks from Illinois conservatives and headed for the border as soon as the election was over, but not Mr. Keyes.

We all owe a debt to the Keyes' organization for being so true to its word. Thanks a bunch EV, we really appreciate it.

Well, if IL Republicans had put up a real candidate instead of the pathetic multi campaign loser Dr. Keyes, who knows what would have happened?

But, Dr. Keyes got 27%. None of the above could have gotten that much.

It’s too bad that Sen. Peter Fitzgerald is retiring. He deserves a promotion.

It certainly sounds like he does. But a politician has to be a fox as well as a lion to get reelected. That's not an excuse for the party, which was wrong to dump him though, but there are limits to how much a politician can antagonize his party.

Maybe Fitzgerald is good example of the kind of government we'd have if term limits had gone through: responsible citizen-legislators who aren't in Washington to feather their own nests. Sadly, the present system doesn't encourage such people to run for office.

It's highly ironic to listen to you people whine, considering the fact that it was your ilk who were doing Obama's heavy lifting for him during the IL campaign.

And you're still at it, obviously.

You never answered my question about Alan Keyes and his gay daughter.

Evidently the 2 parent household didn't work there did it?

I didn't vote for Obama you putz, I live in AZ. I just correctly pointed out to you that Keyes was in for a huge ass whipping. Its not my fault you were so freaking deluded that you couldn't see it (or the damage Keyes did to the Republican party in IL).

In IL, they really don't have one. The Combine, the combination of RINOs and amoral political hacks that run the IL GOP, have pretty much smashed any sort of conservative initiative. You can at least partially thank Karl Rove for that, by the way. Robert Kjellander, their corrupt national committeeman is a disgrace. And Rove handpicked him. These people are too busy lining their own pockets to worry about rebuilding the party. Besides, they couldn't do it even if they wanted to. They hate conservatives.

Everyone knew he couldn't win. He knew he couldn't win. But, he had the guts to fight for what we believe in anyway, no matter the odds, or the personal cost.

I know people like you can't understand that sort of attitude, but there it is.

Everyone but you.

And he trashed the Republican party in IL, all for what? Another stupid ego quest by Keyes. And there you were, all along drinking the koolaid.

Your attacks on Keyes based on the tragedy that he has experienced with one of his children show clearly that it is you who is the putz, putz.

He's handled the whole thing better than most could ever do under the same circumstances.

And, don't bother quoting the lies from the Democrat Media about it all, either. Unlike you, I know the truth of the matter.

He got more votes than Judy Baar Topinka just got in the gubernatorial race.

You can blame Keyes for losing, after all he lost. But trashing the Illinois Republican party? Please, if Keyes hadn't stepped in Illinois Republicans had two candidates ready to step up to the plate, Mike Ditka, a well known politician as you know, or a blank line on the ballot. You can't blame the lack of a candidate, for a Republican seat of all things, on Keyes.

Blank line would have cost less and been less embarassing.

Keyes has never won anything, not even close, he actively turns republicans off as was seen in the race. He hurts the party more than he helps.

>> When Topinka won the nomination, a lot of people was going to vote for the Constitution Party and doesn't care that Blago was going to win again.. Well he won and now we get another 4 years of him ramming of socialist programs down our throats...

As opposed to another 4 years of what? TooPinko ramming socialist programs down our throats.

You're right, given the "choices" I didn't care if Blago won and I didn't care if TooPinko won. I certainly didn't endorse Blago because he's an awful Governor, but that doesn't magically make Topinka "better". You might as well speculate on whether this nation would better off with Gore or Hillary at the helm.

BTW, despite running an extremely poor campaign Keyes STILL got 70,000 MORE votes in Illinois than "electable moderate" Topinka. Of course she didn't have the excuse of being an 11th hour replacement candidate to explain her pathetic 39% of the vote. If Topinka wants to see who's campaign was a "disaster", she should look in the mirror.

"Besides being a creation of the media, Senator Obama is also the creation of failed Illinois Republican politics. The lesson Illinois Republicans seem to have a hard time learning is that sometimes in politics half a loaf is better than none. So, Keyes was on the ballot, and then Keyes lost to Obama. The election wasn't even close. Illinois Republicans gave Obama this victory as a gift, to the chagrin of many. What were they thinking? " Uhhhhhhh......this guy needs to offer some perspective. Illinois didn't pick Keyes out of the blue! We had our own rock star lined up to run for the Senate. Jack Ryan was popular, good looking, a self-made millionaire and inner-city school teacher. He was brought down by the details of his divorce -- and there was a controversy about the ethics of that info being released. His wife, Jeri Ryan , who currently is on the new television series, Shark, claimed he wanted to have sex in swinger clubs. He withdrew and they had to drum up Keyes at the last minute.
