Why, then, does he bother to define himself as "muslim"?

"...the Bolton card was played to the end - the votes aren't there..."

Is it true that the Republican votes weren' t there or was it all a Dim thing?

Maybe because he was born one, and hasn't changed his religion? Anyway, where did he explictly pronounce his muslimness as being hyper-important?

I judge him not by his "religion" or ethnicity but by what I know of him and his actions and deeds. He has done a helluva job in Iraq (and Afghanistan), and has contributed his part in the War on Terror. He is strong on foreign policy, a real hawk and would be great choice for UN Ambassador.

Bolton not be nominated is the great shame of the republicans, what a disgrace.
I know if it was a dem congress and they wanted him they would of had him.
Pres Bush might just be better off without the spinelss 109th congress

what do you want Bush to do, hold a gun to Chaffee's head during the vote?

Well, you have to admit... it would be kinda fun to watch.

Don't need any facts. Just judge a man by the color of his skin or his religion.

It's what true conservatism is all about.

A strong conservative freedom loving Muslim would be an ideal candidate for this position.

1. Why should we trust any Muslim? 2. He sure as hell better not be sworn in on a Koran.

Absolutely. It will take a Muslim to convince the other Arab member countries that it is better for them to side with us rather than Iran. The Afghan people are seen as some of the most honorable in all of the Muslim world. Khalilzad is an inspired choice.

Agreed. He may have a little more credibility at the UN because of this background (trying to say nicely that there are racists at the UN too) and I have heard him be very articulate about American interests.

You never know. I don't know anything about this guy. He could be a great pick. Better to wait and see before passing judgement on him.

If it's Mansoor Ijaz, I will go along with this pick.
He is a good American.
He warns us and keeps us informed of the jihadanazi's actions.

Zalmay Khalilzad has served as our ambassador to Afghanistan and Iraq in the last five years. The man has been risking his life daily in Iraq and previously in Afghanistan. The man deserves our most gratitude for his great service. We should be honored that a man of his caliber will serve as our UN ambassador.
