"... surrender to us"

You must be kidding .. we're not worthy to be surrendered to .. really. We have only fed the world, and rescued the world, that's not good enough.

And on December 7, 2006, while ten soldiers lost their lives, how many sailors lost their lives 65 years earlier??

Very good!

However, I'm afraid the WOT today is more like 1938 in Europe, not 1943. The heavy fighting is still around the corner, as is the slaughter of millions of Jews.

You make the error of comparing all out war in 1943 Europe to our standing around in Iraq between opposing forces and getting blown up without taking the battle to the enemy. If we were massively bombing Al Qaeda and killing off Sadr's Madi Militia maybe Americans would be more supportive of the war. But at present I dont see American troops taking the war to anyone, just patrolling up and down the same streets as targets for road side bombers.

The difference is that by then in WWII the danger was clear, at least to the Brits, while at this point, most people don't see the danger yet. We are at a stage similar to say 1938 -- in denial. If they hit us hard again, though, the sh*t will hit the fan.

The good news is, what with the tech advances of the last 60 yrs, the Jews will not be alone in the slaughter, and the war will only take a few miliseconds.

There really was a Nazi study group. The issued a plan even. It was called the "Morgenthau Plan" after its chairman, Henry Morgenthau, Jr. Look it up. Although Roosevelt and Churchill signed off on a less harsh version, Truman did not implement even that part of it. So don't complain if President Bush fails to implement the Baker plan in full.

["It is early 1943..."]

Interesting analogy. However, Hitler said himself on February 3rd, 1943 that the war would be lost after his 6th army was destroyed at Stalingrad - it was downhill from there (so he said).

Well, it sure is nice for Baker and friends to volunteer Israel to give up the Golan Heights! IIRC, every time Israel gives up land in the North, somebody starts lobbing shells and rockets into Northern Israel. Oh, wait... But this time, they wont. Because Syria WANTS to help us, and they promise to be good... This time...

Thanks for your note. I followed your link and read the items. Morganthau was part of a vigorous, multi-year debate between the Departments of War and State over de-Nazification and civilian aid to Germany.

General MacArthur cut through the thicket by sending a cable to Congress in the fall of 1945 that said, "Send me food, or send me bullets." Either the problems were solved by non-military means, or the fighting would flare up again.

I agree with you to a point. Every day that Sadr doesn't catch a half ounce of high-speed American lead between his beady eyes, is a day that the US does not take this war seriously. Keep in mind that Iraq itself had an arrest warrant out for him years ago, for assassinating the older, more respected Imam, whose place Sadr then took.

Iraq went wobbly, and canceled that warrant. The US then went wobbly and also failed to act on Sadr. And the geopolitical cancer has then grown, and grown.

What a spectacularly enlightening thread and comment!!! Thank you both!!!

Very thought provoking and God knows we need some serious thoughts to be provoked in light of the shallow PC puss that's been oozing around the report this thread is a take-off of!!!

That's exactly what the Left and the Media are working for. Unconditional surrender. And they seem to be getting their way.
