Like his unsupported assertion that the US cannot win in Iraq, Baker also asserts - in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary - that Iran and Syria share America's "interest in avoiding chaos in Iraq."I don't think that's all tha far off -- the US hasn't really got an interest in stability in Iraq, and should A) partition the country into Kurdish and Arab states (and leave it up to the Arabs to decide whether to further divide that Arab state into two states by Moslem type), and B) level Syria and Lebanon, leaving the Saudis to worry about the Shiite-heads in Iran. That would strengthen Israel (our only ally there) and weaken the Iranian dictatorship / mullahcracy (the pretense of Islamic rule may be about to change as the phony Islamofascists emerge victorious over the real ones), undercut the likelihood that Egypt will abrogate its treaty with Israel, further diplomatically isolate Turkey (which would then have to build ties either with Iran or the Arab states of Iraq), and perhaps most importantly, free up the US armed forces to rub out further "insurgencies" around the world. The infection would be quarantined, and the Moslems could get back to what they do best -- oppressing themselves and each other. Then we can just sell ammo to all combatants as we and Israel watch the carnage.
Or elect Caroline Glick.
I think the sarc tag didn't get attached! Glick has it right when so many have SSSSOOOOO WRONG. Israel may yet save the world but not with Olmerde running the show.
It'd be interesting to see an Israeli attack force fly across Iraq to attack Iran only to be interdicted by US & British warplanes. What then?
So, what do Freepers think? Was this a sly move on Gates' part to add more reason for Iran to walk circumspectly? Or was Gates being thoughtless and letting the cat out of the bag? Everyone assumed Israel had nuclear weapons, but was it right for Gates to confirm it? In the world of diplomacy, being fairly certain of something is a little different than having it confirmed by someone in the know.
It's 1981 all over again and then some..
Judaism is a religion; Israel is a country. Whatever happens in Israel doesn't affect most of the jewish population.
At least a quarter of American Jews like me understand what is going on and have good moral character. On issues like abortion, gay marriage and illegal immigration, which I strongly oppose and most of the Jewish Democrats do not, I'm afraid they're hopelessly brainwashed. Most of the Jewish population in America is concentrated in the New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Boston, Miami San Francisco and Los Angeles metropolitan areas, all of which are overwhelmingly liberal. Its not just the Jews there, its the majority of all people in those areas that are misguided. When it comes to fighting terror and radical Islam however, I would say around 40-45%, maybe a little more of Jews in America understand how dangerous Iran is and believe an attack against them is justified. I have rarely met a Jew who did not support Israel. On a few college campuses, like Rutgers, there's a few Jews who support Palestine over Israel, maybe to gain acceptance from the majority. As for me, I have never been afraid of doing and saying things that are unpopular and not politically correct, even if it means that other Jews or anyone will ostracize me for it. The majority of American Jews have dissapointed me but I have faith in the Israeli Jews that they will inflict a smashing defeat on Iran, Syria and Hezbollah, as they've been doing to the Arabs that have been attacking them since 1948.
If the Baker doctrine holds sway, then the ME is looking at a total disaster, with Israel stuck in the middle.
Which will make what's been happening in Iraq look like a childrens picnic and then what are the MSM/Dems going to say...before long they'll be begging for Rummy to come back.
... the resta use, don't interrupt your naps!
My girlfriend is Israeli, she knows nothing about politics, although one of her best friends has worked closely with Bibi for many years.
Some of her other Israeli friends hate Bush, etc.,etc.,etc., one of them owns a Kosher store/restaurant. Many there are openly hostile to anything Republican, etc., try to engage them in conversation, forget it, they know nothing with the possible exception that it's very "cosmopolitan" to vote democrat, hate republicans, etc. These are not stupid people, they've experienced palestinian/muslim hatred, etc. and still mindlessly side with their supporters. I've lost tons of respect for them, don't care to be around them because they, above even the most dim American should know better.
Olmert must go! I may be in Israel this summer and neither Ahmadinejad, nor any of his allies will frighten me away. Last night on Glen Beck's show, he ran a cartoon called "The two minute history of the Middle East." I think it presented an excellent history of Israel's wars with its hostile Arab neighbors, in a humorous way that anyone could understand. The stakes will be extremely high for Israel and for America in this upcoming war with Iran, unless by some miracle, Ahmadinijad gets assasinated first. Nothing less than a total victory will be acceptable. Its a clash of good versus evil. I pray for my relatives in Israel every day. I'm waving the stars and stripes, the Israeli flag and the Don't Tread On Me flag and blowing the shofar. No retreat! No surrender!
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
bump.
I am happy to say that Caroline Glick is also pro life and has contribued to Human Life Review.
Actually I think about half of the Jewish population of the world now lives in Israel - chew on that one!
Right on - a fellow Jewish conservative - and the media will deliberately underestimate our numbers. I don't consider somebody like Tony Kushner Jewish simply because he was born a Jew. He may identify himself as Jewish but I don't consider him a member of my religion. His religion is anti-Americanism and anti-Zionism. He is a shande, as they say in Yiddish.
