The resignation of John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations marks another acknowledgement by the White House of the political consequences of the Nov. 7 Congressional elections.

Chafee, who was defeated for reelection, issued a statement reiterating his opposition. " Mr. Bolton did not demonstrate the kind of collaborative approach that I believe will be called for if we are to restore the United States ' position as the strongest country in a peaceful world," he said. "This would be an appropriate time to choose a nominee who has a proven ability to work with both sides of the political aisle, a history of building strong international relationships and a reputation of respect for the institution of the United Nations. The names Brent Scowcroft and George Mitchell come to mind immediately as outstanding candidates. " There's no word from White House yet on whom it might nominate as Bolton's replacement.

No, but it seems to me that the RNC has ignored the GOP base. Opposition from Voinovich is expected in a partisan world, but from a fellow Republican(a term loosely applied to Chafee) is unexpected.

Well, that might insult the "vote for the guy with an "R" after his name because we need to win" crowd.
Don't these people ever get it? Not all "republicans" are conservatives and the "fear Hillary" argument got us what we now have.
I hope you are all really proud of yourselves, yes you, the "hold my nose and vote for a RINO" bunch.
Unfortunately they would never elect him here in PA. I'd like to see him at the un carrying on Jphn Bolton's work.
