Bush accepts Bolton's U.N. resignation

By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent 12 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Unable to win Senate confirmation, U.N. Ambassador John Bolton will step down when his temporary appointment expires within weeks, the White House said Monday. ADVERTISEMENT

Bolton's nomination has languished in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for more than a year, blocked by Democrats and several Republicans. Sen. Lincoln Chafee (news, bio, voting record), a moderate Republican who lost in the midterm elections Nov. 7 that swept Democrats to power in both houses of Congress, was adamantly opposed to Bolton.

Critics have questioned Bolton's brusque style and whether he could be an effective bureaucrat who could force reform at the U.N.

President Bush gave Bolton the job temporarily in August 2005, while Congress was in recess. Under that process, the appointment expires when Congress formally adjourns, no later than early January.

The White House resubmitted Bolton's nomination last month. But with Democrats capturing control of the next Congress, his chances of winning confirmation appeared slight. .....

Wow didn't see this coming.

Let's replace him with someone unbiased and non partisan like Michael Moore.

How do you like you "strident" position now?

Speaking of a man without a country, you all are a "wing" without a party.

You mean the realists you all wouldn't listen to in the first place?

One thing the GOP won't do now is "turn to the right wing" to lead them out of this, you can bet on that.

And, no, I don't have it backwards; this country rejected your no-compromise positions on just about everything.

One of the true conservatives and great Americans - sacrificed at the alter of political correctness. They preferred the likes of people like Madeline Albright. No problem getting her confirmed to State. But a conservative -- hell no.

"Sen. Lincoln Chafee (news, bio, voting record), a moderate Republican..."

The standard two-phrase union that appears in all MSM stories.---"Lincoln Chafee, moderate Republican".

Sorry, Charlie--but Lincoln Chafee is no moderate---he's a screeching liberal. And his opposition to Bolton proves it.

Considering the fact that you didn't listen to us on 'the right' before you 'realists' got your butt cheeks taped together by the Dems last month I figure that's pretty fair.

re: expect the Islamic fascists to strike out again

They probably don't see any need to strike out again right now. What more could they want? They are getting almost everything they sought, why run the risk of angering the sleeping giant again until things start to turn against them. No terror attacks does not mean we have defeated the enemy. They are moving on numerous fronts, terror being but one of the fronts. All the time we're patting ourselves on the back for no more attacks on American soil they are busy staking their claim on behalf of Islam, whatever brand, on country after country.

As long as we do nothing to make Iran and Syria pay for their participation in this worldwide campaign to spread Islam around the world they don't need terror.

Steak and lobster or nothing gets a steady diet of soggy corn flakes with warm skim milk.

Will you shut up with that crap? All your talk about "if only a conservative was in the running they'd be elected" is nothing but crap and has been proven wrong over and over again.

Conservatives -- AS YOU SEE THEM -- cannot be elected by this country anymore.

Part of the problem is people like you who never, ever compromised on ANYTHING.........how do you like being out in the cold now?

I couldn't agree with you more....this is a very sad day....

Mr. Bolton was a stand up guy and the rats are afraid of him because he will nail them to the wall....they have to get rid of him....

The sad thing is, if he hadn't stepped down, the rats would have smeared him for the rest of his life...remember the klinton smear machine is working to get her thighness in office....

This is like voting from your Toyota to destroy the new Rolls-Royce that just appeared. A terribly stupid move by a lot of unqualified politicians!

Every job we fill in this country has qualifications that are required of the applicant, except Senator and Congressman. Shame. Here are people promoted beyond their level of competence, acting as though they knew what they were doing. They're like barbarians in a Mensa meeting.

The truth here is the greatest casualty. (You can tell I'm mad) John Bolton has been the only whiff of fresh air in this rancid world government called the United Nations.
