Bush accepts Bolton's U.N. resignation
By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent 12 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - Unable to win Senate confirmation, U.N. Ambassador John Bolton will step down when his temporary appointment expires within weeks, the White House said Monday. ADVERTISEMENT
Bolton's nomination has languished in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for more than a year, blocked by Democrats and several Republicans. Sen. Lincoln Chafee (news, bio, voting record), a moderate Republican who lost in the midterm elections Nov. 7 that swept Democrats to power in both houses of Congress, was adamantly opposed to Bolton.
Critics have questioned Bolton's brusque style and whether he could be an effective bureaucrat who could force reform at the U.N.
President Bush gave Bolton the job temporarily in August 2005, while Congress was in recess. Under that process, the appointment expires when Congress formally adjourns, no later than early January.
The White House resubmitted Bolton's nomination last month. But with Democrats capturing control of the next Congress, his chances of winning confirmation appeared slight. .....

Oh, brother...are you another one who thinks that the Foley thing was a sign of corruption in the whole Repub House?
I hadn't thought of that one, and I agree. To the point of getting a slight shiver.
This would be a perfect time. Bush in retreat, conservatives and liberals unhappy with him.
An attack during his presidency would help the libs usher in their new "understanding" administration.
In the "big picture" I see, there are no Republicans, whether they are conservatives or not.
He's one of them there types that admitted on the radio for all the world to hear that he was saying things he didn't believe.
LOL...you got that right.
Exit polls showed that Republican corruption was the number one or two reason voters voted against Republicans
Of course. The media was successful once again. Sounds like they sucked you in pretty easily.
"Compromise" means that both sides give something up. What did the Demonrats give up?
OMG, are you this dense? They don't have to give up anything because they just sat back and watched our side tear itself to bits trying to satisfy a bunch of people who will never be satisified with anything!
The compromise I was speaking of was between US on agreeing on SOMETHING, ANYTHING.
But you knew that.
Are you expecting that there will ever be a Congress where one or a few members in 535 doesn't get stung for corruption?
The current level of corruption among Repubs is remarkably low. You are one of the MSM's best naive customers.
I do not care WHO you are, that right there is hilarious. The Far-Right GOP controlled Congress that has been spending tax money like drunken sailors (no disrespect to drunken sailors), or the Far-Right President that wields his veto pen mercilessly against all discretionary spending? The Far-Right Republican House and Senate that could not resolve whether to grant immediate amnesty for all foreign invaders in the US?
Yes indeed, the Democrat party co-opted all of this Far-Right thinking and spanked the GOP with Far-Left ideas of fiscal responsibility, immigration reform, and a US National Defense Policy that does not cow to UN Mandates regarding troop levels in Iraq.
I thought we had agreed not to post to each other.
Did I miss something, because if I did, let me say again, I'm not interested in your thoughts or your thoughts on my thoughts.
Thank you for being so rude to me. It seems to me that you are hung up on "compromise" and that you don't see any value in maintaining the conservative principles that this country was founded upon, thereby acquiescing to the left.
I think I will go do some bathroom-cleaning. It's far more entertaining than reading the morons who are posting on these threads.
Limbaugh is right....the concept of Conservatism won the last election...it was the Republicans who were too blind to see it and lost their way....
..I voted for the republicans after holding my nose...but the moderate swing vote went to the Dems, because the Republicans looked like a bunch of wusses and were not confident enough in their majority to stand up for conservative values...they were too busy reading the garabage in the MSM poles..
And thank you for trying to bait me by completely misrepresenting what I said in my original post!
It seems to me that you are hung up on "compromise"
God forbid we should EVER compromise on anything to move forward just one step at a time to help this country. Demand it ALL now or sit home!
and that you don't see any value in maintaining the conservative principles that this country was founded upon, thereby acquiescing to the left.
Has it not occured to you that by being so strident, it is YOU who have, for all intents and purposes, aquiesced to the left?
More bad news for America!
Everyone using
the words "rino" or "sheeple"
(except me right here!)
is more a part of
the problem than solution.
Grow up! Recognize
the world isn't just
about you and your narrow
views of who is "real."
