A Herndon Town Council member said yesterday that the town should print official documents in English only, as a way to encourage Hispanic immigrants to learn the language.
"The language of the Commonwealth is English," said William B. Tirrell Sr., one of four new council members and a new mayor elected in May who have raised concerns about the impact of illegal immigration on the town. "All of our efforts should be toward encouraging people to learn English. This is an English-speaking country."

First the voters throw out the pro-illegal immigrant town council. Then Herndon requires all contractors to hire LEGAL residents. Now this. What a great town!!!
Do a search of FR for Herndon and you'll see all of the great things that this town has done since throwing out the liberals who encouraged law breaking.
Wow. A first step....in a million mile journey. I hope other towns see the wisdom of this. Learning the language of the country in which you live is essential for success.
And when they're sued, as they will be, they can have their attorneys present their case in, oh, Urdu....
What law would they sue over?

The beauty of so many cities and towns enacting their own ordinances is that the ACLU doesn't have the resources to go after all of them.
And in this case I'd say let the ACLU waste it's resources on this. The state law is clear.
Well, when I came to the US, I could read, but having neither grammar nor active vocabulary, I could not speak or write - I could not have asked my way to a bathroom without making hand gestures [always misunderstood to my detriment] and mooing sounds [also misunderstood, and also to my detriment]. Thus the learning incentive was pretty strong. The Herndon administration is 300% correct.
The Hispanics are a fairly recent although extraordinarily disruptive influence there.
A few years ago I was patronizing the La Salsa restaurant in Mira Mesa (northern San Diego). I had been going there for 2 years and knew all the staff. One evening the cashier decided she was going to conduct the business in Spanish. I figured that if we could pick our language, I would pick my favorite. I ordered my food in Welsh. She looked perplexed. I suggested that we should conduct business in a language that we both understand. English would be fine.
If I were to move a non-English speaking foreign country I would never dream of trying to force them to accommodate my language. I'd learn theirs.

Such beauty in small communities is the stuff that stoked the fires of great revolutions.
Our local governments can be held accountable by us if they fail to follow the contract we made with the federal government back in 1776.
LOL!!! Good one. I hope that she learned her lesson...
And that's EXACTLY what happened in Herndon last election (one year ago?). The pro-illegal immigration city council was tossed out on their butts because they decided that they wanted a city run illegal alien work center.
The city of Gaithersburg, MD just canned their illegal alien work center plans (to be harshly condemned by a Washington Post editorial).
Sadly there are already half a dozen county operated illegal alien work centers around Washington D.C. The liberal counties have yet to be stopped.
Ping!
Just curious. Why "mooing sounds"?
Well, try to express yourself orally in some language you do not yet know - say, Chinese or Swahili [or any other, whichever you pick] - the sounds one would be making would indeed be best described as "mooing"- somewhat figuratively, true, but only somewhat.
True, but there aren't enough such towns, so the ACLU has the upper hand right now.
So the rest of you have to get together in your local community and start doing the same thing and bleed the ACLU and La Raza dry.
Burke said that all it requires for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. So stop cheering from the sidelines and get in the game. Bush and the RINOs and the Dems aren't going to do it. It will have to be you.
Thank you. You certainly write well.
Some people have a knack for new languages, I'm not one of them though.
