Unhappy that the Justice Department denied his request to investigate campaign fliers handed out by Maryland Republicans on Election Day, New York Sen. Charles E. Schumer fired-off a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales asking him to justify the decision.
"Unfortunately, the midterm elections held on Nov. 7, 2006, were tarnished by countless dirty tricks and ugly tactics. The ploy used in Maryland stands out for its sheer cynicism and brazenness," said Schumer, chairman of the Senate Democratic campaign committee, in a letter sent on Wednesday.
Schumer's letter refers to fliers distributed on Election Day by homeless people bused in from Philadelphia by campaign committees for Gov. Robert Ehrlich's re-election bid and Lt. Gov. Michael Steele's race for Senate.
Fliers handed out in Prince George's County gave the impression they were a Democratic sample ballot, but listed Ehrlich and Steele along with Democratic candidates for county and legislative offices. The fliers also made it appear that two prominent black Democrats Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson and former Rep. Kweisi Mfume were supporting Ehrlich and Steele. Both supported Democratic candidates Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley for governor and Rep. Ben Cardin for the Senate.

He and his dumpster divers sure have their nerve.
Didn't his staffers do credit checks on Steele?
Yep!
He is doing this for a PR effect
It's all about getting in the news and painting republicans as corrupt
Really, Sen. Schumer....remember how Janet Reno handled these matters??
Apparently Schumer only approves of bussing in homeless people in a campaign if it's a Democrat doing it. Kinda like the "church/state" issue that makes it OK for black churches to openly campaign for Democrats, but "unconstitutional" if a religious conservative expresses a political opinion.
Yeah. It's Schumer's job to do these things. He's good at it, he enjoys it.
It's our job to ignore it.
More posing by the ultimate poser. Did Chucky call a presser to announce his heart-felt letter to Albert?
Meanwhile, Sandy Burglar is sipping a Mint Julip somewhere and Slick Willie is molesting a campaign worker.
Philadelphia? Where 95+% of Democrat registered voters vote EVERY election? Usually, they bus the homeless from polling place to polling place, to cast multiple straight (D) ballots and the Pennsylvania voters in areas outside Philly are dis-enfranchised totally by the Philly-fraud.
This sounds like a case of "if I ask for an investigation of them it will dissuade them from really getting into our own dirty tricks that were probably much worse".
So..Schmucky want's to NOW complain about winning, huh??
Well...I think Michael Steele should file a civil complaint againts Schumer for having his personal information stolen...
Schumer is out to lynch Steele.
Why, it's almost as if those evil Republicans stole their identities!!!
Pound rocks, Senator.
We're gonna see two years (or more) of investigations on top of investigations on top of investigations. That's what got them kicked out in '94. Remember the Gonzales investigations?........
Maybe Chuck is offended that the Republicans didn't use typically Democratic tactics on election day: forged absentee ballots, having the deceased out and still voting, sabotaging vans intended to take citizens to the polls, and of course, claiming vote fraud after every loss (well, that one's for after the election).
