A detailed economic analysis follows Lindsey's introduction wherein he essentially proves the Laffer Curve.

The question is whether Bush will repeat his father's error -- which resulted in Clinton. The "business as usual" GOP congressional leadership selections -- despite the clear signals sent by voters in the recent election -- does not bode well.

Seems to me that Mr. Bush learned from his papa not to raise taxes after stating he won't
If what he is doing now with his can't we go along to get along routine to leave a better legacy he'd better listen to his dads speach. "NO new taxes".

What I've forgotten about Bush, and there were plenty of you here to remind me, is
eventhough he's been great on the WOT he's still a "moderate." and when I look at
this WOT, he's even fought "it" PC and moderately.

How can someone look at the economy, see how it's ever robust, and then think
taxes need to be raised?

I have a feeling that many of the posters who are complaining about Bush now were the same who stayed at home and let the Dims took over the Congress.

Pure pig slop (pardon my French). John Boehner and Roy Blunt are gonna raise taxes?? Mitch McConnell is gonna raise taxes (doubt even Trent Lott would do THAT)?? George W, the son who repeatedly cut taxes - whose father never cut taxes only raised them yet people want to say the son will do like the father...please!! - is gonna raise taxes?? This forum needs an anti-stupid drug for mass distribution. Stat!

President Bush might have eggs over easy this morning rather than his typical bowl of cereal, says White House insider.

Like father, like son. The Bush family and the republican congress and party have abandoned the conservative base hoping that the base will continue to vote for them as the lesser of two evils.
As proven over and over, the Christian conservative base is not like the athiest left wing and foolish socialist base and know that when you are handed your hat, it is time to leave and "move on".
But they will not learn until they destroy themselves.

The President does NOT levy taxes, Congress does..
A democrat Congress.. by the way..

In particular, the rumors suggest the president might be willing to get rid of the provision that caps the income level used to compute Social Security taxes and benefits.

First of all, the caps are raised every year. In 2007, the cap will be $97,500. Taking it off entirely will cause harm to the economy.

Removing Social Security's Tax Cap on Wages Would Do More Harm Than Good

Ugh, I am so sick of all these "rumors" about what Bush will or will not do.

The only thing I find more annoying are all the FReepers who go off half cocked and screaming DU style Bush hatred because of these rumors.

Rumors fly that President Bush may be willing to raise taxes

Gonna' need a pot of money soon.
After Dubya, Pelosi, and Reid pass open-ended (endless) Amnesty,
it's gonna' take a TON of money to make citizens out of all those
illegals that are contributing so much to the US economy.
Once we pay them all those tax refunds for past years and start
paying out Social Security benefits to all their extended families.

In the event this "rumor" is really a trial balloon, let me go on record as being opposed to a tax increase.

The Pres has little to do with the budget--expenditure or revenue. He got his tax cut Bill through, but that isn't likely to happen again.

Sounds like someone is trying to stir up trouble for the President. How many folks will hear this and get mad at HIM even though he hasn't done anything?

1. The Laffer curve as popularly presented is as much of an over-simplification as the opposing theory that tax payers don't change their behavior as rates change.

2. The truly wretched part of this rumor is that the part the President is supposedly prepared to raise social security taxes - perhaps the most "black hole" part of the budget.

3. There is something positive here - maybe will somebody will actually start talking about balancing the budget.

The so-called compassionate conservative has grown the government at 2-3 times inflation (more than Clinton). It would not surprise me to find out he would sign off on a tax increase. It would disappoint me.
