That's news to me about Asheville. It sounds as if some serious political house-cleaning needs to take place over there...

Asheville is situated in one of the most beautiful areas you'll ever see. But the city itself (which is also a really stunning place, naturally and architecturally) has turned into a blight on North Carolina. It makes Chapel Hill look well-balanced. The city has completely been taken over by the hippies, eco-freaks, homos, and various other maladjusted liberal types drawn to the mountains for their beauty.
My wife has relatives (wealthy limo liberals) in Asheville and trust me, this is a true assessment. Asheville is the Granola bar of the South--fruits, nuts, and flakes everywhere.

Asheville is a city at the crossroads. It has beautiful archetecture, a bohemian history and beautiful surroundings. However, it has a seemy, distasteful side. There is an underclass of pierced and tatooed young (and not so young) people, street people in the park beating drums, etc. The downtown is in decay years after many other larger North Carolina cities have modernized and revitalized their centers (i.e. Raleigh, Charlotte)
Asheville is a city that just doesn't seem to care. It has an anything goes attitude.

The 'alternative lifestyle' or whatever the heck it is called is thoroughly entrenched in Asheville and has been for quite a few years. We go there only to visit Biltmore House or jump onto the Blue Ridge Parkway.
There is a huge need for not only a political house cleaning but a thorough scouring of the whole city--bring out the bleach.

"That's news to me about Asheville."
Not me after watching on a cable channel a Gay couple moving to Asheville because of the open mindedness of the community it all makes sense.
