We do not need to be there, the French already have their troops on the ground as part of UNIFIL force. I am sure they will put stop to this unrest. NOT!

I am taking bets on how many days before all out civil war breaks out. Then of course, feckless Kofi Annan and the UN will blame the Israeli's for the troubles in Lebanon, not the murderous Narallah and his minions. This could actually be good for the region because it will further show the world how radical Islam has ruined another nation, a nation who was making huge strides at rebuilding after their last civil war. If the Syrians had not killed Hariri, and armed their Hezbollah allies, the country had a chance. Now with the interference from Iran, Syria and others, Lebanon will be torn apart once again.

I am so sorry this guiy got killed.

I am SO relieved we don't have peace keeping troops there - the media would already be saying we need more troops and this assassination is our fault, somehow.

This is the reassertion of Syrian domination of Lebanon.
The civil war has been going on for decades, it was reduced to politics and power-sharing for awhile, however:

"Kicking he Syrians out" didn't stop their influence,
NO Lebanese government has bothered to slow down Hezbola - or to rationalize their frontier with Israel,
Hezbola has convinced half or more of the Lebanese that they are their only protection and necessary for return of the 'farms' Israel still holds - farms which I think are snuggled up to the Golan Heights (formerly Syrian).

They have also recently convinced themselves and the muslim world that they beat Israel in war and, presumably, now deserve the perks - control of Lebanon.

As to the UN spectators, they are there solely to suppress Israel and are quite occupied turning their radar on and off when IDF reccy birds fly through.
They will simply announce that they have no mandate for internal issues and pull out because it is suddenly dangerous.
That, or they'll increase the sea blockade in order to hold Israel inside its borders while Syria retakes control.
In any event, they will turn a blind eye on islamist crimes and the UN will rave and posture at Israel for existing in the same neighborhood.

My favorite report so far was hearing that hezbola and its allies withdraw from the government - then announced it to be non representative and therefore illegal. Now that they've made that leap, resuming the assassinations would be their logical means of making their point.

Very true. Blaming Israel and the US has become cliche. Never mind the fact that this cult wants us and everything we stand for destroyed. That isn't even worthy of a footnote.

I believe the French actually stated that they will NOT disarm Hezbollah, adn they will not put the thousands of troops they promised there until their safety is guaranteed. Sad.

What's the difference between 10 Frnech soldiers and 10,000? Less POW's.
