Trust me...hate speech laws will protect more "groups" than gays and Muslims. Radical vegans, who sought protected minority status in Idaho, will be protected from being called the "Vegan Taliban". Speaking out against the North American Union will be considered hateful.
I wonder if Pink Floyd's The Wall will be banned because of the lyrics "for the queers and the coons and the reds and the jews". Will Roger Waters seeks to fight these unconstitutional laws if they ban his music, or will he toe the neo-lib line?

What is ironics, as the ADL passes these laws, the group that will use them the most are muslims.

And they want to take away all of your guns (even BB guns) so they won't go bad and harm a minority breaking into your house.

And, speaking out for the right to keep and bear arms, or how the Iraq war was a good idea, would be banned. And so would speaking out against Pelosi and Obama, and Pelosicare.

So it would appear that free speech is a dying notion, there is no such animal as "hate speech".
Hate requires reaction, and any speech can bring a reaction for instance if someone didn't like McDonald's, they could be charged with hate speech for merely expressing their opinion on Mcdonald's.
this law will require self censorship, and that is the antithesis of Free Speech, the free exchange of ideas.
And of course the hippo-critical ACLU is nowhere to be found.....

I'm already a thoughtcriminal according to the neo-libs. I mean I regularly use the words Pinkoski (Pelosi), Schemer (Schumer), Hitlery (Hillary), Osama Bingrid Newkirk (Ingrid Newkirk of PETA), and "Vegan Taliban".

As much as I like that some legislation didn't get passed, I am very uncomfortable with the use of the majority to block votes on legislation, instead of using persuasion to convince people of the superiority of your position on the matter.
One of Newt's 1994 promises was to allow votes on things on the floor. Oddly, that's also one of Pelosi's promises now, to allow republicans a vote on the floor for their amendments.
I think that was and is a good thing, even though it does mean that sometimes you will end up with bad legislation, when a majority of the house loses it's mind.
It's just wrong to use tricks and deception to slip things into bills, or to keep bills from being voted on. It's one of the things that contributed to overspending and complacency, as the republicans figured that they didn't have to hold hearings and make persuasive arguments, they simply had to sideline bills and sneak stuff into conference reports.

"Pres. Bush has said he will sign a "modified" hate bill."
Of course he'll sign it -- he's a closet liberal with a track record that reveals his disdain for free speech.

"I hate hate laws"
You beat me to it!
Decorum does not allow me to express fully my disgust at the very idea of "thought crime" laws.
I may not like what you say; but G*d D*m It, I'll fight for your right to say it!

"Dems wacked away at the 2nd amendment now they want to kill the 1st.."
One of the dems favorite argument against the RKBA is that the 2d Ammendment only protects a 'collective right' to KBA exercised through the national guard.
If one buys this argument then one should also agree that the 1st Ammendment free speech could also be 'collective right' exercised through National Public Radio.

"free speech in America will quickly come to an end."
There has been no free speech for many years now.
