It is the elite. They have superb healthcare for life, a golden parachute retirement plan, their children receive a better education, and the list goes on and on. They are the elite, above all laws and regulations. And it is our job to support them in that manner and not to complain.

I only pray that I see it end in my lifetime.

So the ones in parentheses indicate they are in debt, right?

I'm stunned myself, as to how many have negative net worths. I have to assume they've concealed their assets somehow, because this just doesn't jibe.

535 Alcee L. Hastings (D-Fla) ($2,129,005) ($7,335,000)

How did Alcee Hastings accumulate that much debt?

It'd be interesting to see their net worth upon entering Congress and the annual appreciation since.

Yes, we should only elect losers. I can see the campaign ads now:

"Vote Joe Shmo -- for twelve years he's done nothing but sit on his couch eating Count Chocula cereal and doing bong hits while watching daytime TV! He's like you and he's for you! Besides, his mother wants him out of the basement!"

Thanks to McCain/Feingold (AKA: The Billionaires Only Rule), these numbers are only going to go up.

I hope you are kidding and did not take that away from my post. I meant no such thing. However, I am against the lifetime benefits that these people receive no matter what kind of numbers they have on paper.

Let's not fool ourselves. The clintons are virtually certain to be worth billions. They just don't declare it.

I had an Iranian friend some years back, who would kid me about American corruption. I was offended until he pointed out what our esteemed "public servants" were worth when they entered public service and what they were worth after they had "served" for a few terms. Every one of these guys should have a running total of what they've "earned" since getting in office -- Republican and Democrat alike.
