We just lost a big election and people are going to vent. This is to be expected and I'm sure there will be a shaking out period. Some people are going to move on, others will join in. Alliances will shift. People will sharpen their objectives and goals.

Some are saying we have two years to regroup and recover our direction, but I don't think that's right. If we don't want to lose it all in '08, we'd best get our house together immediately.

We need to continue supporting the president and our troops, but we also need to focus on direction and candidates for the next election. And, of course, we're gonna be awfully busy at the same time fighting off Pelosi, Reid & Co in the Congress. Hope the shake out period doesn't last too long.

Arguing about what could've been, or should've been too long is counter productive. Best spend some time on getting together on what should be and can be done next to succeed.

I also don't see any value in spending the next two years absorbed in Bush/GOP bashing. Best get our wits together and concentrate on the battles to come. I for one do not relish the idea of living under the Democrat thumb for the next 40 years.

Thanks for the sanity Jim. We can't do what you wisely suggest if FR becomes a DU exchange site.

Thanks Jim/ I don't have to worry about the next 40 years, but I worry about my sons, DIL and grand children. If we don't beat them in 2008, the DemonicRat thumb will be least of their worries.

If Bush gets the amnesty he wants, that will be our fate.

Sound Advice, Jim. I don't post much anymore - you'll recall I've been around since very close to the beginning but have mostly avoided the fights and flame wars - but I'm here every day.

Some serious time for reflection before making decisions about how we go forward is surely in order, and our self-criticism should not be about blame - surely we all can share that - but about what is the right thing to do in the future.

I remind everyone who wants to start shooting at various Republicans that it was Ronald Reagan who said the 11th Commandment is Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican.

It was sound advice in 1964 after the Goldwater debacle and it's sound advice today.

Disagree with one another on policy? sure. Argue passionately, but about issues? sure. But, attack other Republicans personally? No. Not ever. No matter how angry you are. It just helps our political opponents and, more importantly, America's enemies.

It's important to remember conservative principles, but even more important to remember that there will be times that you have to convince people who do not hold those principles to vote for candidates who will, on the whole, be more inclined to conservative solutions than not. Who will support conservative leaders.

It is time to settle down, and keep our cool instead of devolving into bickering, infighting, and a blame game. We lost this battle, but there is a war still going on FRiends. So lock and load my FRiends, and keep your eyes on the prize. Its going to be a rough, bumpy ride.

Its time for conservatives to come together and work on an effective strategy for the next election. I believe we can do it, because we've achieved the impossible before. I for one, am looking at the opportunities presented to us with this situation. A lot of the new crop of democrats ran on a conservative to moderate platform. We can take advantage of this and hold their feet to the fire in their regions so that the extreme left wing does not get away with everything.

We have a lot of talented and active Freepers on this forum. I think we can gum up the rats, and also work for success in the next election.

We have 22 incumbent seats to defend in the senate in 08. If we conservatives continue as a part of the Republican party, major retooling on core values and the platform needs to take place now to make that happen.

Thanks, Jim, for re-focusing the forum. Hopefully, the Bush bashers, on the #1 conservative site on the web, will quit their ranting or leave to be with like-minded folks, because: what's the point?

The mission of this Forum on the homepage is very clear, and it does NOT include bashing our Commander in Chief, the leader of US and our brave troops, especially in time of war.

Chuckie was just on, gloating over the victory with his comrades, and he said they're planning to keep the Rats in control for the NEXT GENERATION!

Are we going to let that happen?

I for one do not relish the idea of living under the Democrat thumb for the next 40 years.

Yet at the same time you want to be counted as a man who supported Bush, you fought for the idea of all these DEMOCRAT VOTING illegal aliens becoming LEGAL VOTERS FOR THE DEMOCRAT PARTY. I don't understand how you rationalize that thinking.

How many illegal aliens voted on Tuesday across the country? I would bet millions did.

Had you been for closing the borders and jailing the employers of these criminals many more FReepers would have joined with you and demanded full enforcement of our existing immigration laws.

Next year, when the Democrat Party adds 20 million legal voters to their rolls, you people who are for open borders can stand up and say, "I am a Republican, I helped you outnumber the conservatives."

When the Democrats push Bush into withdrawing from Iraq through budget cuts or whatever, before the job is done, remember that it the amnesty entitled, new Democrats that are also demanding it, not us conservatives.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pelosi isn't telling Bush today, "Mr President, You want your comprehensive Guest Worker Plan voted on, well, get us out of Iraq and I will give it to you."

I have a hard time supporting the president because Bush is no more of a conservative than Pelosi is. The man wants globalism to succeed, a borderless North American Union, not an independent strong sovereign country like we have now.

If the Republican Party wants to support the NAU idea then I don't see why any of us are supporting them. We are conservatives not fascists, at least I know I am.

FASCISM – “A political philosophy and movement of extreme nationalism, militaristic imperialism, suppression of civil rights, and opposition to democratic social progress, expressed through the efforts of a fanatic minority to seize complete political power.” - The Grosset Webster Dictionary, revised edition, copyright 1947, printed 1978.

I think it's time to start supporting the Constitution Party and get America back on track. With a strong effort we can get true patriots in office who care about America, not globalism and the UN Charter.

By the way, I voted for John Ensign, not because he was a Republican but because he supports the troops and controlling our borders.
