What Republicans need to learn from tonight...
11/07/06 | Philistone

The most important thing that Republicans should learn from tonight is that America is a representative democracy.

This does NOT mean that your congress critter shares ALL your beliefs, or that he is a perfect human being, but rather that, in general, he votes the way you want him to.

It's like hiring a lawyer. You may despise his personal life and his principles, but what is important is that he WINS YOUR CASE.

Democraps could care less about the morals of their elected officials as long as they win.

Republicans could learn a lesson here...

Explain Hillary, Menendez and the liberals in PA House races.

Hillary: Sheeple vote in a lost district.

Menstruendez: Bin Laden could Run in NJ as a democrat and win against Jesus Christ.

liberals in PA: Unemployed/imprisoned/hospitalized/whatever Philadelphia and Pittsburgh motor voters that vote straight-party in too large of numbers for the rest of the moronic, apathetic Iggles phanz to change the vote. And even if these morons wanted to vote their conscience, they are so afraid of their fellow union goonies, they'd press the 'D' button no matter what.

What it really reflects is that America doesn't get radical Islam.

We will.

I agree whole heartedly. My post are venting my displeasure at the republicans allowing this to happen.

Seems you are a RepubliBOT. Republicans can do no wrong.

Well, at least I know that in the fight to get the Congressional Republicans to change the ways that got them thrown out, I will not count on your help.

Have a nice time in your denial of the obvious.

Yes, you can basically say you trust people, more or less... but you miss something very important. Once in power, it begets power. Democracy is a 'sticky' thing, and bad people elected now will *NOT* be unelected.

Consider: Can we ever unseat Hillary, if she just wanted to be senator for life? Even though she is a bad senator - wrong, dangerous, unethical and against good policies.

We just lost something THAT WILL BE VERY HARD TO GET BACK.

The GOP had a magical alignment 60 years ago, in 1952, when they held the White House, Senate and House. They lost that alignment in 1954 ... *and didnt regain it until 2002*!

FOR 4 YEARS WE HAVE HAD A REPUBLICAN GOVERNING MAJORITY.

We had an opportunity - a conservative moment.

My fear is that 2006 for Democrats sets us up to favor them in 2008 (Madame Hillary for Prez) ... my favorite Pez contender of the year, Allen, may actually lose in VA.
What a disaster.

So Americans are mostly Conservative and voted for liberal anti-Americans?

Wow, that makes sense.

NRO: "Looking at the numbers, not inconcievable that the Democrats take the Senate. Based on the precints that are left, it is possible that the GOP could go 0 for Virginia, Tennessee, Montana and Missouri. It is a good, good night for Democrats, a bad bad night for Republicans, and a brutal night for my predictions. It is a tushie-kicking from coast to coast."

Compare this to other sixth-year midterm elections, and then call it a tragedy.

No, it is NOT a good night for us, but it's not nearly what it SHOULD have been in a NORMAL sixth-year election. Not by a mile.

The country truly is divided if it couldn't completely wipe out the Republicans in the midst of such an unpopular war.

The question is, will the Republicans step back, start building campaigns for 2008 with conservative candidates who can win, or will we see this weak victory that just barely pulled the Dems from political pbscurity as some kind of total disaster for a party which has bucked the odds of history, in large party thanks to the President so many here despise?

"Of course there is. But it the combination of things that climaxed tonight does not change, it will be a long time before Republicans gain the House back."

It will be tough to win back many of the northeast seats in 2008, and if redistricting goes Dem, even harder...

"Republicans, from Bush on down, need to go strongly to conservative values. And the cut and run voters? They are immature, cowardly, selfish little punks."

It's our only hope, but it will look AT BEST like a holding pattern - 1975-1976 or 1987...

"And Reagan NEVER abandoned his conservative values."

Bush went wobbly WITH a GOP majority Congress, will he be any better than GHWB was with a Democrat one????

Well, I'm godless, though I'm not a socialist. If I can't be stopped, we're in good shape.

If you're trying to say that defeatism isn't the path to recovery I'd have to agree.

Sad, isn't it? I just heard George Allen speak of our representative democracy. Even our elected officials don't know our form of government. No wonder we are in trouble.

LOL, why would Republicans change their ways?

It seems the public wants them more liberal, since they voted for all liberals tonite.

That is a fact, and very obvious, correct?

I have not posted this before because I thought the stakes were too high and was hoping for a pull-out by the republicans.

But the blame can be laid at the feet of Denny Hastert and House Ways and Means former Chairman Jerry Lewis of California. He is the one who put the biggest ear-marked bill in the History of Congress together and got it passed.

Remember the Bridge to No-where...it came out of his committee. A partnership deal with the Senate Finance Committee.

Being a fiscal conservative and strongly in favor of "pay as you go" this just rankled me. But looking across the aisle I saw only evil.

And now evil wins. They took over Berkely and now this evil has taken over the People's House!

Communists running the HOUSE! Because of moral cowards in the republican party!

bingo! Couldn't have put it any better. They just didn't realize that they have to follow through with why they were elected.
