All I can tell you is this:
I'm a young retiree and have been for 8 years (since my early 40's). I live in a predominantly retirement area and we vote 75-82% in our precinct. We're mostly conservative and since we have time, we socialize a lot and talk politics a lot.
Not one of those people thought intervening in that mess was a good idea. My parents are in their 70's and have voted Republican all their lives and they thought the late night emergency meeting of Congress to deal with one person and one issue when we're at war with other much larger issues was one of the worst mistakes they've ever seen.
Did I say that lost the election? Absolutely not. It's one example of many of how the "true blue" conservatives moved this party. And to the party's detriment, imo.

And the way the illegal immigration fiasco was handled, especially the IMPRESSION it gave, is a good example of how the RINOs moved the party and to its detriment.
Sorry, Schiavo is old news. Illegal immigration isn't and given the closeness of these races it certainly had an effect on today's results whether justified or not.
