(E) Court Orders MoveOn.org To Cease Voter Intimidation And Harassment In Ohio

On Election Day, individuals in Franklin County, Ohio, were threatened and harassed at their polling places by agents of MoveOn.org after being asked about their voting preference and revealing their intention to vote Republican. Similar situations are alleged to have occurred elsewhere around the state and prompted a lawsuit filed in the Franklin County Common Pleas Court. Voters were intimidated by MoveOn.org in an attempt to dissuade them from voting for George W. Bush or in an attempt to harass them after they voted. (84) (Exhibit K)

Examples of such intimidation include one plaintiff who arrived at his polling place and was called over to a table operated by MoveOn.org that promised “Free Coffee.” The plaintiff asked for a cup of coffee, was asked if he would voter for Kerry, and responded that he would not. The person at the table refused him a cup of coffee. The plaintiff then noticed that particular individual and others standing near the plaintiff’s car. When he exited the polling place, the MoveOn.org table was placed in front of his car, blocking his exit. When he asked them to move, the individuals harassed him, took his picture and recorded his license plate. (85)

Another voter noticed a loud and boisterous gentleman at her polling place wearing a “Voting Rights Staff” badge and standing well within 100 feet of the polling place. In fact, he stood right outside one plaintiff’s voting booth and told her that she only had a few seconds left and needed to make her final vote. These plaintiffs sought, and received, a temporary restraining order against MoveOn.org. The complaint has subsequently been amended to include allegations of similar acts by agents of MoveOn.org that occurred elsewhere in the state.

http://www.ac4vr.com/reports/032405/OhioElectionReport.pdf adds,

"5.2 Incidents Of Voter Harassment Across Ohio, instances of illegal electioneering within 100 feet of the polling location were reported. The organizations most responsible for sponsoring this activity were MoveOn.org, America Coming Together, Voter Protection Project, and the Election Protection Squad and similar so called “non-partisan” groups. A few examples of those incidents, among thousands collected, follow:"

Remember that MoveOn.org is the same organization that knowingly and willfully welcomed racist, anti-Semitic, and anti-Christian hate speech at its online forum until the scandal forced the forum to shut down in mid-September. http://www.stentorian.com/MoveOn/ for more about this.

http://www.command-post.org/2004/2_archives/cat_ohio.html adds, "There were some blatant Kerry groups getting too close to the polling areas and reports of 527 groups inappropriately “electioneering”. What that means is that groups like Acorn, ACT, and Moveon.org were found distributing Kerry literature, wearing Kerry adverts, approaching voters trying to get to the polls …and more of the same in areas that are to be kept free of such things so as not to intefere with voters who disagree with the ideologies and potlitical views of such groups."

Ah, the National Socialists are on the move again. Soon, the "Brown Shirts" just might come out of the closet, and history repeat its self.

Yes, it's from the last election. I wish I had seen this two months ago because it underscores MoveOn.org's pattern of less-than-ethical and reprehensible conduct (most recently, serving as a platform for hate speech).

This business of MoveOn.org's alleged harassment of voters is pretty serious and it will hopefully deter some people from joining MoveOn.org Call for Change parties today. (Google Blog search should pick this up in searches on "MoveOn.org.") Also, of course, I'm pretty sure the Free Republic community will enjoy seeing yet another thing that is wrong with MoveOn.org.

You might want to make sure some precincts in Ohio know about this important ruling.

All the more reason for FReepers to get pollwatching credentials (from any area GOP campaign), move around on Election Day from poll to poll, have cell phone in hand with the phone number of your STATE BOARD OF ELECTIONS number already programmed in, digital still or video camera if possible to videotape the "perps".

While the US Attorney General crows about locking up a few illegals, Moveon and ACORN are stealing the election.

Instead of plaintiffs, they should have been speed bumps.

These incidents, and other incidents where a person is physically blocked or impeded is not just harassment but can also be construed as an assault. Should this happen to you, you would be justified in telling the individual who is physically blocking you to "Get out of the way, NOW!" and if they do not comply immediately, then pound them to the ground so they can't get back up. Then call the police and press charges against them.

Oh, God please let this happen to me! Once my tire passed over their body I would personally take my license plate off the car........and beat him with it.

I wonder why they don't pull that stuff here in Texas. We miss all the fun.
