A witness in Salt Lake City told police Tuesday she remembers sitting next to Drabik on the flight.
His doctorate thesis in exercise physiology was named Poland's best PhD dissertation in 1998. He has also earned four other graduate degrees, in physiotherapy, molecular biology, computational chemistry and astrophysics.
Before coming to Edmonton in 2004, he worked as an academic in New York and Montreal.

At about 7 a.m. on Sept. 1, Brzeminski dropped his friend at the Edmonton International Airport
He got on a plane for Salt Lake City, where he was supposed to catch a connecting flight to Honolulu. He was carrying a return ticket dated for Sept. 11.

Maui County police Det. Ken Prather said the scientist's luggage hasn't turned up in Hawaii, and Drabik didn't use his credit card from Sept. 1 to Sept. 20.
