WASHINGTON - Several conservative web sites are reporting a potentially explosive development in the campaign for the Virginia Senate seat.
Sites, including The Drudge Report, have pointed out several sexually graphic excerpts found in some of Webb's novels, including "Lost Soldiers." The sites are raising concerns about Webb's own character and his attitude toward women.
Drudge claims the information came from a news release, as provided by George Allen's campaign. WTOP has not been able to independently verify that the Allen camp sent the release.
Webb joins WTOP's Mark Plotkin this morning at 10 a.m. on the Politic's Program on Washington Post Radio at 107.7 FM and 1500 AM.
Did they read the EXCERPTS like Imus did? When you actually hear it, it's not good for Webb.
That's because it's "old news" already. Isn't it time to just "move on"?
Of course, if Webb were a Republican, it would have been the lead story on every network morning show and the right-column-above-the-fold lede in every newspaper. On the other hand, if Webb were running for office in Massachusetts, his Republican opponent might rightly suspect Webb's campaign of intentionally leaking the story, in order to boost his popularity with the powerful "alternative lifestyle" community that commands a large voting bloc in Massghanistan.
THe exerpts are disturbing, to say the least. Definitely not my taste in fiction.
However, I'm really hoping that the Allen camp isn't behind the release of this, as is being stated. If it was actually released as a statement from the campaign, it makes them look incredibly desperate.
Exactly
Imus also asked Chris Dodd if this was a "legitimate concern". Dodd said "no".
No. Novels that he wants to sell and make money off of.
Read one Jim Webb novel. Really hated it and never read another. It did have graphic sex scenes in it. Also had an unhappy ending (after she was captured, a marine LT's wife cheated on him with a terrorist; helped the terrorist kill a marine, then, after the terrorist was killed, went back to the LT and he took rather than killing the b!tch - great opportunity for a little justice was missed there).
It was a crummy novel. I won't by any more of his works. BUT IT WAS JUST A NOVEL.
"Begala was on earlier and spinning this as just novel writing."
Begala spouted so many outrageous lies it was hard to keep track of them. For example, that George Allen was a racist who put deer heads in black's mailboxes, used the N-word, etc. And the lies he and Anus were spewing about Rush and Michael Fox were just vicious.
Maybe Harball will cover it if we ask.

Let little Chrssy here from us.
MSNBC just mentioned it at the top of the hour in their news.
"Ummm, not that I support him, but they're NOVELS."
So? You think novels write themselves?
Webb's Fields of Fire is an outstanding book. I can't vouch for its accuracy or realism, as I did not serve as an infantry platoon leader during the Vietnam War.Webb's A Sense of Honor is the best book I've ever read about the U.S. Naval Academy experience. In fact, I'd recommend it to any young person contemplating attending the Academy.
Webb might be reprehensible as a politician, but he is a fairly respectable novelist. Those two books could be studied as part of a college freshman curriculum.
Umm,,the worst part is that they are the fantasies of an eighth grade boy in the grip of testosterone. They are really silly, poorly written.
Embarassing for him I would think, not because of the sexual content, but because they are,,well,,badly written.
Don't know that its porn, any more Peter Benchley's sex scenes in Jaws were porn.
At least he can read and write, which is more than you can say for, say, Maxine Waters.
The BIG issue is how the media missed this!!! (Are you there God? It's me, Brian Ross)
This should be nearly as big as the Foley incident. If I were Allen I would be running ads. This will destroy Webb and if the conservative "blogsphere" let's it die then they are fools. This is a gift to the Allen campaign.
Drudge needs to be a guest on talk radio shows today.

Maybe so, but there is at least ONE scene I could never have imagined or written, and it seems to me that only someone rather bent could even have such an idea form in his brain, fiction or not.
All it will do is boost Webb*s book sales as the perverts rush out to buy them:-)
