I've had HDTV for a year and a half, and I think the difference is worth it. I find it hard to believe that 60% of the people who have bought HDTV's don't have HDTV signals going into them, but it could be true, I guess. What puzzles me is that, even when the show is in HDTV, most of the commercials aren't. Even if few people have HDTV yet, I'd think the commercial producers would want to appeal to customers who spend more than average. I doubt that it would cost much more to film the commercials in HDTV.
With few exceptions, commmercial producers like to appeal to idiots. They know that smart people have other ways of making buying deccisions.
Me too. There's no comparison when watching a game or ANYTHING in HDTV to regular screen broadcasts. I thought congress mandated that all cable channels had to be HD ready by 2007. What's the real story? I'm pissed that I've got a great HD Plasma and I've got only a few shows that broadcast in HD. Why aren't we being accomodated?
I agree. The standard definition ads just, look horrible on HDTV. They're a huge turn off.
Most HD sets up to '06, were HD ready that required a seperate ATSC tuner. The FCC mandated that in '06 and after, all HD sets sold, had to have the ATSC tuner built in. True, sets before '06 could have the tuner built in, but those were mostly the high end/high dollar sets.
As for commercials, they film them once, and have to play to the lowest common denominator, which is still SDTV.
Now I just got a Samsung 30" "Slimfit" (16" depth) CRT HD (1080i) set for $750 that looks wonderful. Much better than LCD and even DLP. I ripped out the guts of my old (1979) dying 27" Sony console, and inserted the Samsung into it. I had to use a sawsall to cut out part of the old speaker boxes for the width, but over all it fit perfectly.
They think they automatically get HDTV. I have 2 brothers with them and they look terrible. I read up all this digital TV stuff and just found out my Dish Digital is not digital.....even though I have a SDTV.
