A liberal gay rights group said Wednesday that one of its employees, acting anonymously, had created the Web site that first published copies of unusually solicitous e-mail messages to teenagers from former Representative Mark Foley, which led to his resignation.

Congressman Foley in Tucson for rehab

Oct 26, 2006 06:12 AM CDT

Congressman Foley in Tucson for rehab

According to lawyers for former Congressman Mark Foley, "he has been an inpatient" at the Sierra Tucson treatment facility.

Sierra Tucson officials would not comment.

Foley's attorneys say "Mark Foley has been an inpatient at Sierra Tucson, located in Tucson, Arizona since October 1, 2006. He respectfully requests that his privacy continue to be maintained."

According to Foley's attorneys, he's being treated for alcoholism.

On their website, Sierra Tucson is described as a psychiatric hospital, specializing in the treatment of several addictions and behavioral disorders, including eating disorders, sexual addiction, drug addiction, bipolar disorder and depression.

Since Foley began his 30 day treatment on October 1st, there is the possibility that Foley could be released from the Tucson facility this weekend.

But there are questions as to whether he's even still here.

Again, his lawyers write that "he has been an inpatient," and not necessarily that he is one currently.

Kolbe breaks silence on camping trip inquiry

Oct 26, 2006 06:08 AM CDT

Arizona Congressman Jim Kolbe breaks his silence about the inquiry into a 1996 camping trip.

A trip he took with two former, male pages and others.

The Justice Department opened an inquiry about the Grand Canyon trip after a complaint was filed at the U.S. Attorney's office in Phoenix two weeks ago.

The inquiry was initiated a few weeks after Kolbe's name was brought up in connection with the congressional page scandal, involving former Congressman Mark Foley.

Foley resigned last month after his racy emails to young, male pages surfaced.

A page, concerned about alleged inappropriate emails from Foley, visited Kolbe's office in either 2001 or 2002.

Kolbe claims he never read the emails or knew of their content and referred the matter to the house clerk.

A complaint was given to the Phoenix office but it's not clear if it accused Kolbe of inappropriate behavior on the Grand Canyon trip.

For weeks, Kolbe has been out of the country and speaking only through his office until Wednesday.

Congressman Kolbe spoke very briefly to the media Wednesday about the inquiry but his message was clear, "I didn't do anything wrong."

He said, "I know there are a number of inquiries that are underway and we are cooperating fully with all those inquiries and I'm sure at the end of the time it will show that we've acted appropriately and did the exactly right thing."

The justice department is looking into a complaint about a 1996 camping trip Congressman Kolbe took with two 17 year old boys, both former pages, along with his sister, staff members, and park employees.

There are conflicting details about what went on.

NBC news interviewed a source who claimed to be "uncomfortable" with Kolbe's attention to one of the pages. The page in question told NBC he didn't want to get into the details.

But a park official and the other page say they didn't see anything inappropriate.

Kolbe said, "It's certainly not fun, there's no question about that and we didn't do anything wrong and I'm think that'll be demonstrated at the end."

Kolbe wasn't willing to discuss former colleague Mark Foley, who's under investigation for sending inappropriate emails to pages.

Kolbe said, "It's not appropriate for me to be get into talking about all the individual things nothing inappropriate was done and I'm sure that will be demonstrated in the end."

The House Ethics committee is also looking into the camping trip.

As for Foley, News 4 learned Wednesday that he checked into the Sierra Tucson treatment facility on October 1st.

Kolbe says he wasn't aware that Foley was in town, and has no plans to visit him.

Jeff Trandahl?!?

Sorry for the link:

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/10/8/103538/498

Isn't it about time that that HRC require Trandahl to explain his role publicly, or throw him off the board of the HRC. That organization should not be associated with people who are enablers of sexual predators like Mark Foley -- and unless Trandahl comes clean immediately, HRC should dump him unceremoniously.

I have noticed both parties are trying to sweep border issues under the rug.

I think it is very telling that Ted Kennedy chose not to vote instead of simply voting against it. He must think a vote against border security might come back to haunt him. He is a drunken loser; but he is very politically savvy and very good at catching the change in prevailing winds of the people.

OH the House of Representatives which these liberals are salivating over retaking has NOT swept this under the rug.

This bill the Senate voted in the affirmative 80 - 19, and old Kennedy not voting, is awesome news, but it is NOT in the liberal interest to tout how many liberals voted for it.

We conservative should be celebrating the House of Representatives and making darn sure these liberals do not take control Nov.7, cause if they do this fence is not going to see the light of day. They simply will not fund it.

Thanks TK. Gay organizations should be sued by the government for practicing discrimination in hiring, and the gov't should keep investigating and suing until all of them are out of business. It's a civil rights issue.

I agree with you about the House of Representatives. They have been our only hope and have driven any small successes we have had. I think it is because members of the House are generally more in touch with the people and know more about what is going on. Once most politicians reach the Senate they never look back and live in their own world. There are exceptions, but not too many.

More likely that even some gays have a problem with an older man soliciting a minor.

If they really had an issue with that, they'd stop trying to muscle into the Boy Scouts of America.

Don't know the story I found it on "Toothpaste For Dinner"...a picture site. I was just trying to make a point of The Gay Lobby screaming and hollering about morals and Republicans.
