It sounds silly, but when "Hillary Clinton" is matched up against Sen. John McCain in a hypothetical presidential election, she loses by a single percentage point. But if pollsters refer to her as "Hillary Rodham Clinton," she trounces the Arizona Republican by 7 percentage points.
According to an Opinion Research Corp poll conducted for CNN, which asked 506 adult Americans whom they preferred among potential 2008 presidential candidates, they chose Hillary Rodham Clinton to McCain by a 51 percent to 44 percent. But when the "Rodham" name was dropped, McCain had a 1 percentage point advantage, 48 percent to 47 percent.
It doesn't quite work if her opponent is former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Even though Clinton has an advantage over Giuliani with or without her maiden name, using "Rodham" tightens the race. Asked if they prefer "Hillary Clinton" or Giuliani, Clinton had a 4 percentage point advantage, 50 percent to 46 percent. But add "Rodham" and Clinton's edge over the former NYC mayor drops to 1 percentage point, 48 percent to 47 percent.
Keating Holland, CNN's polling director, said that the results are meaningless because the election is still two years away and no poll can accurately predict a race that far in advance. Moreover Clinton has always appeared on the ballot using her middle name, and there is no sign that she intends to abandon it in future elections.
The results are consistent with earlier testing that indicated Clinton's favorability rose when her maiden name was included in the question, Holland added.
Hillary has to be wondering why her
party is pushing Il. Sen. Obama so
rampantly the past month or so. I
don't expect to see her President,
and I sure hope NOT to live long
enough to see her husband as a U.N.
Rep. or envoy of any other kind!
But you can't convince me that he
has anything other than an Ambassador
appointment in mind. He makes far
too many trips abroad where he is
wined and dined at prestigious
tables! Hillary also has to wonder
who is his dinner partner at these
soirees.
They need to try this using McCain's full name, and also see what results they get if they call her just "Hillary Rodham."
The obvious thing to do is for John McCain to list his true name on the ballot.
John Rodham McCain.
Did they poll a different 506 people for each question? That could account for the difference.
Post the link on the Hillary Watch compilation thread.
Ever heard of James Jones? What about James Earl Jones? People are so stupid. The kind of petty crap that people consider when voting is amazing. It's why women weren't allowed to vote for most of our history. And why children still aren't allowed to vote.
innacurate, they didn't ask if you put monica instead of hillary.
Every time I see that collage I get a neck-tweaking pisschill that lasts most of the day...
>> How stupid can people BE?
The older I get, the more I realize how flat-out ignorant and lazy a large (and growing) portion of the population is.
The utter failure at all levels of 'education' to produce individuals who can think for themselves is shocking, but real. We can rail against indoctrination but the sad fact is that behemoth known as public education has a decades-long head start (no pun intended) and reforming it is an impossible task. Alternatives (private schools, home schooling, etc.) must somehow replace the government idiot factories in peoples' minds and hearts or we'll keep producing mouth-breathing Cheez Whiz eaters who are barely able to operate an ATM.
I know you were asking a rhetorical question and I'm not in the habit of education rants but like you I'm at the end of my tether when it comes to draw-them-a-picture idiots posing as adults.
I share your sentiment.
BS. Besides sky-high negatives, the third hoove of the Beast enjoys equally sky- high name recognition. Thus everyone knows what she is, and the turd under any other name still stinks the same.
"The Democrat Media."
I was contacted on this pole. I voted for any democrat available against McCain, but against any democrat for any other republican. I know push-polling when I see it and I am not going to allow McCain to be pushed as the leading Republican candidate.
pole=poll.
I thought it was her Jew hatred...
True, however, you MUST factor in Daley/Rendell, St.Louis City, ballot box #13 in Texas,-- walking, voting, dead.
