Be it her politics - or perhaps her personality - one thing is clear. Some big-time MSM women columnists don't dig Hillary. Yesterday I described here how the LA Times Rosa Brooks described Hillary - in the context of her support for legislation authorizing torture in ticking-bomb type cases - as having "hit bottom"and "fallen as low as it's possible to go."
Today Maureen Dowd weighs in - with a vengeance. The central thesis of the subscription-required Obamas Project Runway is that the Illinois senator needs to decide whether he is content to be the glamor guy basking in Dem adulation, or wants to get serious and run for president. [On a related note, earlier today I posed the question here as to whether Obama is ready for prime time in light of his suggestion on last night's Olbermann that we should encourage Iran and Syria to "take ownership" for the stability of Iraq.]
In any case, along the way, Dowd offers this trenchant take:
"Mr. Obamas main accomplishment so far is sending a chill through Hillary Clinton, the Democrats dreaded eventuality."
Ouch!
A guy who is an occasional fill-in for a bay area conservative talk station tells of when he was the weather guy for a bay area TV station.
As I recall, he was completely ostracized and shunned, simply because he was a conservative.
Behind the scenery, there was not even the pretense of objectivity.
I believe that this station is more likely the rule than the exception.
Sorry, but this is one of those incorrect phrases the media has repeated ad nauseum, and it drives me crazy. Even you (one of my heroes) have fallen for it... AAACCCKKK!!! We live in a democratic republic, not a democracy.
ooooh, pull in those claws, MoMo, your catty remarks against Hillarity will offend your fans..... just remember that Demagogues must stick together, else you will all hang separately....... :^)
I have seen all I intend to see of him. His routine is familiar.
You mean the Mahdi? (messiah)
"Dowd doesn't like chicks.." Hillary a chick? Time for that old eye check up.
Thanks. The way you described Obama as a "Savior" to Democrats and Liberals is quite correct, isn't it?
Liberals are always looking for a political Messiah.
Big Journalism relies on solidarity to put up its front of "objectivity." Someone who shows up and does not put solidarity ahead of everything else is a threat to that precious front of objectivity through which Big Journalism is able to conflate the public good with its own, very particular, interest.Consequently it's not safe to be seen as friendly with a person like that. Rush often remarks that it is a real problem someone working in Big Journalism if Rush says something nice about them.
I think Hilary as the Dem nominee is something we should all hope for. She'd get crushed in a general election. Her unfavorable ratings among conservatives and swing voters are off the charts. Not only would she be unable to win over anyone from ourside and very few moderates, she'd do more to scare up huge GOP turnout than any candidate this side of the devil himself.
Full front page today in the Sun Times "President Obama?" with his picture.
lol
Obama and Hillary are cut from the same cloth -- committed Marxists living in ivory towers. Hillary owns NY, Obama owns IL, but NY and IL are not representative of the majority in America (Thank Heaven).
