As reported Friday, a Democrat staffer was suspended last week over possibly being the source of the recently leaked National Intelligence Estimate to the New York Times. New reports from the Los Angeles Times and Fox News identified the name of the staffer in question, and that he has ties to Rep. Jane Harman (D-California) who expressed such outrage over the incident (hat tip to Michelle Malkin):

The aide was identified by other congressional officials as Larry Hanauer. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of a pending investigation into the leak, said Hanauer had held positions with the departments of Defense and Homeland Security before joining the professional staff of Democrats on the House intelligence panel about two years ago.

It is very sad that our government, over and over again, gives a pass to these treasonous bastards.

It just emboldens them.

Where will it stop?

What ever would possess a repub to hire ANY DEMOCRAT under the current circumstances ..??

I believe some people (including our President) believe everybody in public service is there to SERVE THE PUBLIC - NOT THEIR POLITICAL PARTY.

I wish it were true .. but it's not. Any dem is naturally suspect as far as I'm concerned and I wish our repubs in public office would pay more attention to it.

I sincerely doubt ANY DEMOCRAT would employ a repub. Why - because the dems wouldn't want the repubs to know what they're up to. The repubs on the otherhand are less likely to be hiding things .. and therefore just allow anybody to work in their offices.

The repubs need to get smarter about who is serving in their staff.

Don't hold your breath. In the words of Dennis Prager, "The Republicans are the Stupid Party, and the Democrats are the Dangerous Party."

Hoekstra should have disclosed the name right then and there and who the traitor works for.

"It has become clear to me, by your continuing and unauthorized releases of information received and maintained by the Committee, that Democrats are not willing to protect committee information, and that you are politicizing intelligence for purposes not reflecting national security values," Hoekstra wrote.

It's about time that Hoekstra is coming down on Harman. She's tried to portray herself as nonpartisan on the intel committee for years and nothing could be further from the truth.

But that would be fighting tough.

Well .. if a REPUBLICAN was head of the committee - he should have only repubs on his staff. Today .. you cannot afford to allow dems in such positions of authority - because they are willing to lie, cheat and steal to leak what the repubs are doing.

My letter to Jane:

Dear Ms. Harman,

Normally I would use the term "honorable" to address a seated member of congress, but there is nothing honorable about the actions of you or your staff or minority members of the House Intelligence Committee or their staff. The partisanship you and others under your command on this committee have demonstrated with the continuous stream of leaks to the NY Times by said individuals (most recently, the classified National Intelligence Estimate) are reprehensible. I agree with House Intelligence Chairman Peter Hoekstra that "coincidence in this town is rare." If you had any shame you would resign from congress and take your staff with you. Even if it is not your staffer who is responsible, it is undoubtedly a minority staffer attempting to undermine the administration's national security efforts. As ranking minority member of the House Intelligence Committee it is your responsibility to reign in those on the minority staff who are leaking this information. Obviously Chairman Hoekstra needed to get your attention and I wholeheartedly agree with his methods. I will work earnestly for your challenger to see that your callous disregard for national security is exposed and that you are hopefully defeated in November.

Disrespectfully yours,

[withheld]

Big deal. Compromising National Security is far less important than a former Congressman forced to resign for sending dirty instant messages.

There are two staffs on every committee. The Democrats have their staff and the Republicans have theirs.

It may surprise you to know that the Democrats hire Democrats to serve on their staff and Republicans hire Republicans to serve on their staff.

The chairman heads the committee and can revove access to classified information by any staffer. He can not hire or fire the Democrats staff. The most he can do is suspend access.
