Caught stealing red handed and only administrative leave? In the private sector she'd be fired on the spot.

The Transportation Safety Administration employs the screeners. A spokeswoman says there have been cases of theft before, around the country. She says they have zero tolerance for theft. The screener in question has been put on administrative leave.
Zero tolerance, gubmint style. "Thank" you, RATs and RINOs for saddling the TSA with the gubmint union.
Question; could she be brought up on federal charges? If not, then she picked both the right employer and the right county because we have a charge-nobody DA both outgoing and incoming (regardless of who wins the election). If so, however, there's a bulldog of a US Attorney just licking his chops.

Clearly, the 'gubmint isn't spending enough on TSA worker training...... /sarc

TSA does not normally prosecute these criminals. They say it is because of security, but really, they bust an average of two a week somewhere, and they don't want the publicity, so they let them go.
Be very, very wary if a former TSA employee comes to you for a job, as TSA does not even give negative recommendations for these thieves.

She'll probably say she's has a drinking problem. They'll send her to rehab for a few weeks, paid, then assign her to a different airport.
Simple.

Is this the case where the co-worker knew the TSA screener was stealing, yet kept his mouth shut until the thief was caught red handed?

I didn't see nothing that the written story didn't tell me.

Putting a thief on administrative leave doesn't sound like zero tolerance to me.

She was taken to jail awaiting a charge of theft and was being held on a cash bail amount of $200. That's rediculous. I can see it from the perspective of petty theft, but this was a person in a position of trust -- book-throwing time.

I landed this evening in Columbus Ohio about 8pm. All the concourse shops were closed. Not sure how many more flights were going out this evening. There were 12 TSA agents at the security station. And no one was going through security.
What about THIS theft?

Why does a woman need to steal when she can just get involved in a land deal in Las Vegas and make big bucks?

A screener at Mitchell International Airport allegedly seen taking $20 from a passenger's wallet at a security checkpoint was charged today in the theft. Shantel T. Riser, 26, was charged with one count of misdemeanor theft, value not exceeding $2,500, and faces a maximum sentence of 9 months in prison and a fine of $10,000. A Genoa City passenger told deputies he was awaiting screening in the Concourse D security checkpoint area around 6:10 a.m. Saturday when he saw Riser take the money, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. Deputies found $235 in all, hidden behind a magazine rack where a co-worker said Riser was storing items. Riser has been employed by TSA for four years, the sheriff's office said.
