Republicans Would Be Stupid Not to Vote
Washington Times via Real Clear Politics ^ | 18 October 2006 | Tony Blankley

John Stuart Mill once famously called the British Tories "The Stupid Party." From time to time since then, the Tory's American cousin, the Republican Party, has also earned that moniker. Now may be one of those moments. If current polls and anecdotes are to be believed, there may be a million or two conservative Republicans who are planning to not vote this November.

Thanks for the post. You will be affected in Australia as well if we have enough people wanting to teach lessons in November.

The thing that annoys me most about conservatives deciding not to vote in order to "punish" Republicans for not being conservative enough, is the delusional idea that, after they stay home and the Democrats kick ass in the election, the remaining Pubs will sit there and think, "Wow, we need to move farther to the right". They're going to think, "Wow, we need to move farther to the left", -duh-.

You can be 100% sure that if the Republicans lose in November, the media will take it as a massive repudiation of conservative princleples. Don't be stupid enough to let that happen. If you are trying to send a message that the Republicans are not conservative enough, your message will be completely missed. The only message you will be sending is that you are not too bright.

I, personally, do not know of one Republican who does not plan to vote.

I've heard a few on FR say they wouldn't, but that could be just bravado.

If it's not bravado, then I agree with Blankley, it's stupidity.

Ignore your heartfelt peevements, use your brains and vote.

Ah yes, more of the 'Let us ignore the fact that the Republican Party has miserably failed on key issues (protecting the borders, tax reform, repeal of countless illegal gun laws...) and we should vote for them anyway, because Democrats are evil' rhetoric.

IMO, the Republicans need to be brought down a notch or two, to remind them who they work for.

And before someone replies to this with 'The Democrats thank you for your vote', or 'Go back to the DU where you belong', or something along those lines...save it.

On which of those issues are the Democrats better than the Republicans?

Don't be a friggin' fool.

On that I agree, the Dems would make things worse...if they were in power. But lately, I see very little differance between the two parties. To quote a great man, Mark Twain:

No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session.

And IMO, maybe a split legislature is a good thing...very little would get done (i.e. very few new laws would get passed).

That is the voter I am. I am not happy, but I am still going to vote Republican. Times are too dangerous to let the Dems in power.

I will be the first in line on Election Day. Perhaps I may vote early?

Just keep repeating this to yourself:

"Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi"

Then ask yourself how you will be able to live with yourself, knowing that you had a chance to stop it from becoming reality but instead you sat on your hands.

You are a fool.

Thank you for your words of wisdom...I feel enlightened. Damn, your words have inspired me so much, I'm going to be the first in line on Election Day...and vote a straight Republican ticket (no matter how much they pee on my back and tell me it's raining). /s

Let's see... you premise that little is being done, and then proffer, that little should be done. Am I correct?

OK, I understand the confusion. My real point is this: Before the 2000 election, and even afterwards, I read the countless threads on this forum that stated 'By God, now with a Republican Congress and White House, Conservatives will finally be in charge and get something done!' Well, I haven't seen much get done, except new laws tht will, now or in the near future, curtail our liberties (CFR, patriot Act, etc.).

And now I'm seeing the same threads all over again, but this time I'm not buying it. I want the Republicans to be humbled...everyone needs to be humbled from time to time.

Wrong.

The same thing always happens when the legislative bodies are split: Republicans cave in to rats consistently, and get little or nothing in return.

Remember Trent Lott and his idiotic "power-sharing" arrangement with Daschle?
