(CBS) CHICAGO -- She's married to the man some say could be the next President of the United States.
On Monday, Michelle Obama revealed what she and her husband, Sen. Barack Obama really think about their celebrity status. She sat down with CBS 2's Joanie Lum to talk about a project here in Chicago that she is passionate about.
When Michelle and Barack Obama traveled to Africa last month, it sharpened her focus on issues at home.
"You go to Nairobi, it's the size of Chicago, there are no systems of support for women and children," Michelle Obama said.
That's why she supports the Women's Treatment Center on Chicago's West Side. The facility treats women's substance abuse and takes care of the children while mom is in detox. During recovery, mothers live here with their children.
"I want to do it for me, but I also want to do it because I have children," said Andrea, a recovering addict.
But the government cut the funding for child care. That's where Michelle Obama's celebrity status can help.
"You're talking to somebody who doesn't view herself as a celebrity. Barack and I say, what's the big deal?" she said.
Making the cover of Time magazine is a big deal. Mrs. Obama says she and her husband use the exposure carefully.
"How do we leverage this attention for the good of the Women's Treatment Center? That's our focus," she said.
"It really makes you feel good that someone like Michelle Obama recognizes the services we provide and wants to help us," said Dr. Jewel Oates at the Women's Treatment Center.
Michelle Obama is the keynote speaker for the Women's Treatment Center's fundraiser on Oct. 26 at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Tickets are available.
Obama is a shoe-in to be Hillary's VP candidate, to lock-in the black vote.

She would be overshadowed by a knucklehead that has been "made" into someone great by the MSM.
Hillary needs a Southerner or a red-state Westerner (from AZ or TX). She doesn't need a black man (nearly 90% of blacks vote Democrat as a reflex action) nor does she need pull in the liberal Midwest (WI, IL, MN)
Now if Her Thighness wants to choose him as a running made I say go for it.
Somehow I don't think America will ever be ready for an "Obama" for VP or President.
I can't help you. I am sick of hearing about Obama.
I don't trust him. I also don't think Hillary will choose him as he would outshine her.
Oh the soft bigotry of low expectations. What has Obama DONE or than to be born with brown skin? He's 1/2 white and Oprah's favorite and therefore is qualified to be deemed a "leader"? What has he lead? WHO is he?
Elect the first WOMAN president and the first BLACK vice president at the same time. I don't think so.
But then, since so many here say it won't happen, I'll just file my observation for future reference.....
In terms of Democrat reasoning, he's OVER-QUALIFIED, in that case...
