JACKSON, Miss. - A federal judge has refused to stop the scheduled execution of Mississippi death row inmate Bobby Glen Wilcher, who faces execution by lethal injection next Wednesday.

Wilcher, wearing a red prison jumpsuit and shackled at the wrists and ankles, showed no emotion when U.S. District Judge Henry T. Wingate issued his bench ruling during a rare Saturday court session.

Wingate said he not persuaded by defense arguments that Wilcher had the right to change his mind and seek to reopen appeals the convicted murderer had waived in June.

Wilcher's attorney, Cliff Johnson of Jackson, said an appeal will be filed Monday in the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.

and, if necessary, to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Wilcher was sentenced to death for killing Katie Belle Moore and Velma Odell Noblin in 1982.

This scumbag has already had 24 years more than his victims. Where's the justice in that?

I expect the 5th Circuit to deny the request for a stay.

Well, flush him down ASAP, and continue with the appeals posthumously for the sake of observing the due process.

Is it me, or are these A.P. wire stories getting shorter with less information? No details in many of the stories I click on lately. Would like to know the brutal details of this bastard's killing spree. Once details known, my only anger is in the delay of the penalty being imposed.

24 years after the killing, everybody has forgotten the details but one: the victims are still dead.

This killer does not want to die so death will be justice deserved even if delayed.

If the death penalty does not deter it is because it is so seldom applied.

Ann Coulter said that proof that the death penalty does deter is that Michale Moore is still alive and that she is not on death row. LOL.

The irony is that even as it becomes more practical for stories to provide links to REAL information, many old-media stories fail to do so. I'm reminded of stories that talk about patents but don't bother to mention patent numbers (which would allow anyone with Internet access to set what the patents in question actually claimed).
