Pelosi: ‘Democrats Have Long Fought for Middle-Income Tax Cuts’
House Democratic Leader ^

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 11, 2006

CONTACT: Brendan Daly/Jennifer Crider 202-226-7616 Pelosi: ‘Democrats Have Long Fought for Middle-Income Tax Cuts’

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on President Bush’s comments on Leader Pelosi during his press conference at the White House:

“President Bush and his Rubber Stamp Republican Congress can’t seem to grasp that Democrats have long fought for middle-income tax cuts. This is in stark contrast to the Republican tax breaks for the super rich that have led to a budget that is grossly out of balance and a national debt that is morally indefensible.

“Democrats propose a New Direction to provide real tax help to hard-pressed families, which will inject demand into our economy, spur economic growth that will produce jobs, and reduce the deficit, and we will do it in a fiscally responsible way.”

Very true - if your definition of middle income is living in a Detroit project, having a 30 year-long career as a fry cook for McDonalds, and riding the bus to work.

In 1992, then-candidate Bill Clinton campaigned on the promise of a middle-class tax cut. In 1993, President Clinton passed the largest tax increase in US history. In 1994, Republicans campaigned on the Contract With America, which promised broad-based tax relief. In 1995, the Republican majority passed a balanced budget with tax relief, only to see it vetoed by the president.

"“President Bush and his Rubber Stamp Republican Congress can’t seem to grasp that Democrats have long fought for middle-income tax cuts."

Apparently they lost the fight since the Republicans are the ones who brought forth tax cuts for EVERYONE.

Pelosi is a tool.

...Democrats have long fought for middle-income tax cuts.

... it's just that when we get down to it, we decide a big hike would be better.

We wouldn't expect her to say the "low income class" now would we? That would mean she doesn't "feel" for them.

Can we say Earned Income Tax Credits? Pelosi probably wants to increase these. For the life of me, I will never understand giving people a tax refund, who never paid into the system in the first place.

you left out "who has zero income tax liability to begin with". What part of "the rich pay most of the taxes so, by definition, the get the most in tax cuts" do they not get?
