I don't believe so, but with the big sprawl of NYC, small craft have to skirt the city, and if it was a rudder or hydraulics or some other problem, it wouldn't be hard for a plane of that kind to veer over NYC and hit one of the many hundreds of 20+ story buildings. And that high rise apartment was a big one. I'd hate to have to avoid that building in a plane that wasn't responsive. And something might have happened to the pilot in flight that rendered him unconscious or dead; heart attack, stroke, etc. Wouldn't be the first time, and if the plane was not being controlled, gradually veering and drifting to one side, an impact of this kind would make perfect sense. Just throwing things out there that occur to me. This looks MUCH MORE like an accident at this point. As serious as it is for the people there who were in the building, it's a 0.5 on the "oh s**t" scale compared to the 7.0 that was 9-11-01, with a 10.0 being a nuclear explosion.
Exactly. And looking back at pictures of WTC really stresses the magnitude of the initial impact there, by a commercial jet, versus this Cirrus.
