This whole thing is actually true. Maggots, disgusting as they are, do a wonderful job of debriding wounds, especially the most dangerous and highly septic wounds, the very ones that are likely to become gangrenous.

Aren't live maggots used to help clean large wounds? Yes my mom worked as intensive care nurse Maggots are used to eat out the dead flesh in gangrenous wounds. a practice that dates back to the civil war
