Texas Landowners Protest Superhighway Plan

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Protestors turned out across the state Saturday to voice their concerns about the multi-billion dollar Trans-Texas corridor.

The 4,000-mile highway is being developed, in part, to relieve traffic on Interstate 35.

The corridor would be three times wider than the average highway, wide enough for cars, trucks and trains. It would also be used as a route for utility lines.

However, not everyone supports the plan for a highway that would run from Mexico to Oklahoma, because in order to make this ambitious project a reality the state will have to take land through eminent domain.

“Many people realize this is a rip off of Texas citizens and we're doing our best to stop it,” said Russ Russell of Grapevine.

Protestors say people shouldn't have to give up land that has been in their families for generations.

“The people are entitled to their land and their homes,” Arlington resident Jerry Pikulinski said.

But it’s not just the land that's an issue, said Tarrant county resident Beth Kisor.

“I am very disturbed about roads being taken after they've been paid for by taxes and become toll roads.”

Still North Texas transportation leaders support the project saying if the infrastructure isn't improved, the Texas economy will decline.

That means Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas or Canada, don't have a damn thing to do with this thread. This is about a plan being shoved down the throat of TEXANS! We in Texas have been getting screwed over by our politicians with one 'you front the bill on this project' after another. The Texas lotto will pay for education. NOT! The new business and cigarette taxes will pay for education and lower your property tax. NOT! This new 'Superhighway' will ease congestion on state roads. BS! It will only bring suffering to many families and open the door for the masses to furtherly invaded an already water-starved state.

Agree; but the ramifications if you fail to reign this land-grab in will be detrimental to the rest of the states too.

Maybe Texas should institute an 'immigration quota' of those allowed in to settle and become citizens/residents of the state. Then implement a 'temporary work quota' allowance from among the other 49 states and foreign countries. Set up inspection stations at all border crossings and check the papers before allowing them in. That should do it......

Unfortunately, any legitimate discussion of your concerns will be lost in the static of hysterical observations about the NAU, illegal immigration, etc.


Yes, those other point need to also be discussed in a more rational fashion but, Texas is the frontline in this war. What happen here will establish the precedence for the rest of our country. Currently, condescending and insane rhetoric is coming from both sides of this issue. I prefer to save my own backyard (Texas) and let others worry about theirs.

Eminent domain for our own needs within our country is one thing.

To use eminent domain on a tri-country project may be another. This isn't just a concern of Texans. This one goes across the U.S.

Texas is building these roads because there is no money coming from the Feds. In fact, Texas recieves, from the feds, far less than what Texas sends to the feds as gas tax.

You and Kinky claim that the State/Perry hired Cintra.

I showed you that it was a bidded process with 3 bidders.

Well, my grandmother didn't hire Cintra.

I am not happy about the corridor for many reasons. I realize there is nothing I or anyone can do to stop it. So, I have to accept that. But, why are we giving the contract to foreign bidders? Are they the lowest bidder or did they line the most pockets? Will the ins and outs of this ever be known?

I guess even though I vote mostly republican and consider myself a conservative, I deplore the political shams and lies. I resent pork and the way politicans get rich, and it is not from their salaries. If Kinky weren't running I doubt I would vote. I am voting for Kinky as a protest. I do think Kinky is honest. I don't know about Kinky being a statesman,but there sure aren't any statesmen in office or running on any slate. Kinky is the only one who is not a politician. I think if he became governor he would have very little power to change much of anything...but I believe he would turn the light on the cockroaches.

My responses are essentially aimed at your statement that Kinky is a liar. You have not substantiated that claim.

I proved that Cintra was awarded the prelimenary contract from 3 different bidders. Nobody was hired. If Kinky says Cintra was hired, he is a liar.

As for why Cintra won the initial contract, you would have to say they presented the best bid. And not neccesarily the cheapest. They are the most experienced.
