The Iraqi Police on Friday reported that one suicide bomber was killed before he set his explosive belt off in Tallafar, west of Mosul, and that four gunmen were arrested after confrontations in Mosul.

Tallafar police Brigadier Najem Abdullah Jabbouri told reporters a police patrol in Tallafar opened fire on a suspicious individual in civilian dress who was headed to a place where a large crowd had gathered to see the site of a Katiyusha attack that left slight material damage.

The man's behavior had aroused suspicions and he refused to obey orders to stop and was therefore shot dead. Close inspection revealed the explosive belt the man had intended to set off in a suicide bombing in the Salam area, northeast Tallafar.

As for the Mosul arrests, a Mosul Police source said an armed group engaged a police patrol in Al-Sena'a area, east Mosul. The confrontations, the source said, led to the arrest of the four gunmen.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Army Kirkuk Commander Anwar Hamah Ameen said the second and third battalions in Al-Sleimaniyah started carrying out their duties in maintaining law and order in the city.

The official told reporters the second battalion is responsible for securing near Taza area while the third is to serve in Al-Rashad area. This, he added, comes part of a plan set in coordination between the Iraqi Army and the Multi-National Forces in Iraq to contain the situation and maintain security in Kirkuk.(end) sbr.

How odd, seems the press in a middle east country can report good news in Iraq, yet our old media here will not do so.

How odd.
