Perry says Friedman’s comments 'racist' [tx gov race]

AUSTIN — Republican Gov. Rick Perry criticized his rival Kinky Friedman Thursday for making "racist" comments about blacks. In a video clip widely circulated this week, the entertainer-turned-politician says he would punish sex offenders by throwing them in prison and making them "listen to a Negro talking to himself."

He also called the term Negro a "charming word" in the CNBC interview, which first aired months ago. Friedman, running as an independent, offered no apologies and says his blunt rhetoric is sorely needed in an otherwise timid political culture. Perry, asked about the remarks during a wide-ranging news conference at the Capitol Thursday, said he did not buy that explanation.

"You can shade them by calling them politically incorrect if you want, but it's not lost on men and women of color that people make remarks that are clearly racist," Perry said. "I consider there to be either a direct or oblique reference to race there that underlines what he's saying."

Rick Perry should have kept his mouth shut on this issue.

I'm amazed at how quickly some will turn to democrat style tactics when faced with a threat.

One more reason I'll be voting for Friedman. Perry lost my vote with the NAFTA superhighway land grab.

It would have been funny if Rick had accidentally said "it's not lost on colored people...er...I mean...negroes...dammit, I mean...uh...I am not a racist! I mis-spoke!"
It is easy to "mis-speak" when one is making a speech or remark about racist comments.

I don't kmow what Kinky meant when he made the bizarre comment, but there's no need to make a martyr out of him.

you mean Kinky just started getting Sexist and Racist????

Not by a long stretch...and every bit is satire:

Get Your Biscuits In The Oven & Your Buns In The Bed

Kinky Friedman

You uppity women I dont understand
Why you gotta go and try to act like a man,
But before you make your weekly visit to the shrink
Youd better occupy the kitchen, liberate the sink.

Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed
Thats what I to my baby said,
Womens liberation is a-going to your head,
Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed.

Early every morning youre out on the street
Passing out pamphlets to everyone you meet.
You gave up your maiden form for lent
And now the front of your dress has an air scoop vent.

Every single brakeman thats ever come along
Had a little woman always tellin him that hes wrong.
Eve said to adam, heres an apple you horse
And delilah defoliated samsons moss.

Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed
Thats what I to my baby said,
Womens liberation is a-going to your head,
Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed.

Mean-hearted harpies are breaking all the laws
Tearing up their girdles and a-burning up their bras,
Now the air is dirty and the sex is clean
And your coffee makes my hair turn green.

So damn emancipated in your mind and your body,
Gonna have to cancel all your lessons in karate.
If you cant love a male chauvinist
Youd better cross me off your shopping list.

Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed
Thats what I to my baby said,
Womens liberation is a-going to your head,
Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed.

Kinky is just displaying one of many reason why not to vote for him.

I'm surprised it's taken him this long to step in it.

I was thinking the same thing. Talk about there being just one boat in the water.

Rick Perry should have kept his mouth shut on this issue.

That would be the smart thing to do.

Has Perry taken a stance on the United Negro College Fund yet?

How about the National Association For The Advancement Of Colored People?

What word should he use this week?

I agree. Perry should have kept quiet. Is it racist that the United Negro College is called such?

The press kept Kinky viable for entertainment purposes, but now they will go to attack mode on Kinky now that the election is getting closer, and start carrying water for Bell.

Perhaps he's trying repeatedly to tank his own candidacy. Some have suggested that this was always about album sales and self-promotion more than it was about winning a campaign.

If he'd go beyond the one liners and not flip flop on past positions, he might have stood a better chance at seeing Chris Bell (D) come in fourth place.

All this blather about Kinky Friedman is just so much word noise in the wind. Kinky Friedman is a jerk, period. A failed singer, a failed writer and, most damning of all, a friend of that moron, Don Imus.

This has been going on awhile. Ever hear Hannity? His whole show is listing mean things those darn liberals say.

Every commercial Liddy Dole ran in NC was about those mean things her opponent said about that nice lady. Boo-hoo.

Trust me. If Webb had said "Macacca" (the absolute silliest non-issue I've ever heard) the GOP would be all over it. There are no grownups in politics.

Agreed!

This is one of those time to just sit back, watch the sharks in their feeding frenzy, and be glad you are not in it!
