ABC's GMA Highlights Southern Republican Women...Who are Voting for Democrats

Friday’s "Good Morning America" broadcast yet another bad-news-for-Republicans story concerning the party’s chances in the upcoming mid-term elections. In a report from Robin Roberts, three southern women, all either former Republicans or Republicans considering voting for Democratic candidates, were given air time to express their disenchantment with the GOP:

Robin Rasmussen: "I voted Republican in every election since I was 18."

Robin Roberts: "But not this year. Robin Rasmussen is thinking of voting for a Democrat and she’s not alone."

Janna Herbison: "And I used to consider myself to be a Republican."

Tracy Quick Bradford: "...I think that the, the candidates that, that represent the Democratic party this year are most in line with my views."

Roberts told co-anchor Diane Roberts and new GMA newsreader Chris Cuomo (yes, son of the Democratic former governor of New York and brother of New York attorney general candidate, Andrew) that a "lively, lively" discussion took place among the women. Viewers of the segment saw none of that. In the portions of the discussion that did air, Roberts never asked the women why they felt Democrats might make better leaders. Instead, the piece highlighted each of the women expressing their dissatisfaction with the party, or rehashing Democratic talking points:

Roberts: "What are the issues, Tracy, that you’re most concerned about?"

Bradford: "I think health care, education and the economy. And I think that the, the candidates that, that represent the Democratic party this year are most in line with my views."

Rasmussen: "If the Democrats are in power, they’re gonna--you know they’re going to do the best they--you hope that they’re going to do the best that they can."

Janna Herbison: "And I heard a comment, I think, from a congressman the other day that said if the Democrats don't agree with the war, they're more concerned with the terrorists safety than with Americans safety. And I couldn’t–that just, that blew my mind...Don’t say they’re aligning themselves with the terrorists because they disagree with you. That’s un-American."

Before concluding the segment, Sawyer served up some more "worrying" news for Republican incumbents:

Diane Sawyer: "But another worrying thing for the Republicans has to be how much they just seem to want change of some kind."

Chris Cuomo: "That’s right. I mean, you have to distinguish between not liking the Republicans and feeling that the Democrats are a better bet."

Subject: FYI- MANUSCRIPT ABOUT NEW YORK AND LONG ISLAND RAILROAD COMMUTERS

To: Rep. Carolyn McCarthy

June 7, 2005

Hello... My name is Janna Herbison, and I am a wife and mother from Tennessee, who is also a former television news reporter and former Democratic Press Secretary for the TN Legislature. I have recently written a book entitled "Southern in the City" - a manuscript about my experiences in Manhattan/New York over 20 years as a Southerner.

One of my chapters is entitled "To Long Island and Back." It is a chapter about my travels to and from the city in 2000-2001 from Islip, NY on the Long Island RR Commuter train to Penn Station/Manhattan when I almost moved to the City and was interviewing for jobs. The main focus of the chapter is how amazing and helpful the people on the train were to me during my trips. The commuters went out of their way to assist me in so many ways and it wasn't until I saw a movie about the 1993 shootings that I realized why. I have dedicated a part of this book to what happened and to my respect for the Long Island commuters and what they went through. I, of course, am in the process of publishing, but thought Rep. McCarthy would possibly be interested in this book. It basically states that Southern stereotypes about "New Yorkers" are usually not true, and that I had a most enlightening experience getting to interact with these wonderful people.

Thank you very much for reviewing this, and and if Rep. McCarthy is interested in the book, please let me know and I will be more than happy to send her a copy. I would very much appreciate her input and guidance for this project, which I believe will be very worthwhile for both New Yorkers and Southerners in the near future.

Thank you very much, JH

Memphis , TN

Yeah, looks like they hand picked their Southern Women to interview. There have always been some Southern women who voted Democrat, and there always will be, but if they're not Democrat already, it's highly unlikely they'll be leaving the Repubs. to join up.

LOL, I wonder how long it took ABC to find these three idiots. I love how the Clown Car Media will settle on a story line, Republicans who don't like Bush, Republicans who don't like Iraq, soldiers who think Iraq is a mistake, etc. etc. then set out to find the few people who fit that pre-fabricated storyline they developed.

Somehow I doubt ABC news reporters were just walking along one day down South and saw Republican women wearing t-shirts that said "I'm Republican and voting Democrat in the fall!" No, ABC set out to issue yet another bag of vomit story about the dire straights the GOP is in this fall, settled on this story line to prove it and then went to work, probably for weeks, looking for the women who fit their template. Spare me. These idiots in the Clown Car Media really think we're a bunch of brain-dead dupes. Unfortunately for most of America they're right.

So this is not really just another silly, meaningless, ABC generated, anti-Bush, anti-republican fluff piece.

I knew it! They were plants. Just from the excerpted comments, I just didn't picture them as Republicans or at least conservatives.

At best, they might be John McCain Turncoat Republicans (tm).

The news orgs did this in 2004, 2002 and 2000 as well.

It's amazing how much bad luck they have in finding these people that turn out likely not to be who they claim to be...amazing bad luck.

:)

Or does the news know and decides to hood wink the public. Hmmm, I wonder.

It's hilarious how the Communists in the DemocRATic Party are so ashamed of being scumbag DemocRATs that they always try to pass themselves off as "republicans." The dorks at GMA should be ashamed of themselves for not doing 5 minutes worth of research.
