The Moscow and St. Petersburg I traveled to this summer stand in stark contrast to the Russia depicted by the media and politicians in the United States.
The Russia I visited was one of growing prosperity and innovation, progressive education and an economic strength not based exclusively on oil and gas.

Try telling that to most Americans and you will get laughed out the door. Americans read articles written by reporters witting in bars, and not out with the people. Their minds are already made up.

I really don't care how "progressive" men are who give nuclear technology to the worst criminals on the planet, arm every hoodlum and tyrant, flak for them all diplomatically, and never perform the slightest act of any general utility to the rest of the world. As for their bright future, they are a future province of China with interesting museums and graveyards, and will be as relevant to 22nd century politics as the Hittites.
