Dance of Diplomacy Is Grist for the Gossip Mill [Condi Canadian boy friend?]
The New York Times ^ | September 13, 2006 | By HELENE COOPER

STELLARTON, Nova Scotia, Sept. 12 — There are perils to being unattached in the stodgy world of diplomacy. Sometimes it has seemed that all Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice needs to do is show up in public with a man, and people start talking.

The single, sophisticated American secretary of state once drew notice for wearing black stiletto knee-high boots with an above-the-knee black skirt while reviewing American troops in Germany, so she is bound to attract gossip. That is particularly true on the dry, acronym-ridden diplomatic circuit of NATO meetings, APEC forums and Asean conclaves, where much imagination has focused on possible romantic links between Ms. Rice and her counterparts.

Until now, Ms. Rice’s rumored matches have been, shall we say, unlikely ever to appear on the cover of GQ magazine. In July, Italy’s normally staid Corriere della Sera raised its eyebrows over a joint appearance in Rome between Italy’s similarly staid foreign minister, Massimo D’Alema, and Ms. Rice. In April, a headline in The Boston Globe promised a tale of “Jack and Condi: A Love Story,” after Ms. Rice gave the pullout bed aboard her plane to the former British foreign minister, Jack Straw, during a surprise trip to Baghdad from Blackpool, England, where she was visiting Mr. Straw’s hometown.

But it took a two-hour flight to Halifax, Nova Scotia, this week, followed by a 90-minute motorcade north up Highway 102 to Pictou County, for Ms. Rice to find herself linked to someone with similar star appeal: Peter MacKay of Canada, the single, sophisticated foreign minister, routinely named Canada’s sexiest M.P. by The Hill Times in Ottawa, and the closest thing to eye candy on the diplomatic circuit. Tall, athletic, young, blond and recently dumped by his girlfriend, a fellow member of Parliament, Belinda Stronach, ...

She's definitely too good for Peter boy. He may be fiscally conservative but the horrible deal he made with David Orchard in 2003 and what transpired afterward has shown that Peter goes where the wind blows..... and he is not to be trusted.

Well at least McKay is trading up. Sec. Rice is a far better catch than Belinda the backstabber.

You don't know women, dude. The last thing a woman like Condi feels like doing during the time she's with a man in a relationship is "be the man." You will drive her crazy and away if you don't let her be passive.

I do know women. She would intimidate and be domineering over most guys. If she dated me, she be cooking dinners in lingerie.

To say Belinda Stronach "dumped" Peter McKay is a massive understatement.

She crossed the aisle to the Liberals and took a cabinet post to boot, and did not even bother to tell her boyfriend before she did it. Even though she was a Tory frontbencher and Peter McKay was the deputy leader of the COnservatives.

It was as cold and calculating a political move as I have ever seen. On a personal note, dumping her boyfriend on live national TV is about as cold as it gets.

I thought Condi had a longtime ex-NFL player boyfriend, and that she liked professional athlete types. Peter is 11 years younger than Condi. What if he wants to have children? She is probably past the ability or desire to have kids. If Condi ever marries, I picture her with an ex-pro athlete close to her age, or some Russian honcho close to her age. She always says her loves are sports and Russia.

I know Tiki Barber (sp?) joked about meeting with her once when he was guest-hosting Fox and Friends. At first, I thought he said "Ronde" -- his brother -- but I did a triple-check on the DVR. He said "Condi". I wonder if Tiki has a crush on her. He's also mentioned he has kids but, in the world of pro sports, that doesn't necessarily mean he's married. I think it would be so cool if they got together. Most athletes-turned-broadcasters only seem to know about sports, but he is quite proficient in current affairs.

It's gotta be hard for someone with Condi's obvious character and strength to establish a relationship with a man. It's hard enough when you just have a successful career. She has that plus all the media attention, the scorn from the elite media and the liberal establishment because she is a star and NOT ONE OF THEM, and the hours and pressure of dealing with all the crap she has to deal with. Most men will run like hell from someone like her.

It will take a man of exceptional strength and character to land our Condi. Peter ain't that. He's Belinda's leftovers.
