This would not have happened if Tim the Tool-Astronaut Taylor had been on board....

All EVA fasteners on ISS are captive. The bolt has a spring under it so that is will pop up when it releases, and the "washer" is a crimp ring that goes on the other side of the hardware to hold the fastener captive in the hardware. If one of these bolts floated free, it's not an astronaut error, its a hardware manufacturing error.

Without the washer the space station residents will have to wash their clothes by hand.

My preference would be to call Bob the Builder: "Can We Fix It? YES WE CAN!!

They will eventually fall from orbit, not burn up in the atmosphere, land next to some car being worked on, causing the guy to wonder where the extra parts came from...

Please, we must be Politically Correct.

It is not a "Washer"

Women have too long toiled in the domestic role, doing dishes, washing the laundry. Women are ready to assume their full roles in society.

Rather than "Washer," the correct term is "Washperson!"

Thank you.

Joe T is a family friend. You work the program?

I am sure they do. I think their major concern is the missing parts might become FOD.

"I would think they have spares of these lying around."

If not, I'm sure there's a Home Depot in the neighborhood.

That does it. It's just not safe anymore. Pull the plug and bring the astronauts back home. We shouldn't even be out there.

Put the money into social projects like the ones that helped New Orleans for so many years. Alternatively we could invest in aids research and third world dictatorships.

Unfortunately, the entire P3/P4 Truss was produced in the USA by Boeing.

You work at the pool?

Joe T. is also the Youth group leader for my sons (Scott and David) at UBC. A great role model for them. Its amazing how much time he has for them, and has them over to his home quite often.

W're incredibly fortunate to have such men in our community.
