They'll keep her in the anchor slot for at least a year. If her ratings don't improve, they just won't renew. Is her contract a one or multi year contract?

Is her contract a one or multi year contract? I haven't seen any details on that. The reports just say that she's getting $20 million for the first year.

Back in the day....
Bawawawa Walters and Connie Chung got an 'associate' within weeks, IIRC.
Walters may have been only a co-anchor during her short stint. But neither Walters nor Chung was retained at the anchor desk for more than a couple of months.
Even 3rd place for Couric will probably be acceptibe for a while, provided her numbers are in the same range as Rather/Sheiffer's. If she drops too low, I'm betting that her contact has an 'out' clause for CBS.
After a while, CBS might try bringing in a co-anchor (of the male persuasion) and see if that boosts ratings.
